This Shimano/TackleDirect combo is a medium duty Bluewater combo that?s at home trolling for white marlin, sailfish, dolphin, tuna, and wahoo.

TackleDirect TDSSUT601MHSB Custom Rod Description:
  • Precision blend of graphite and fiberglass
  • Stainless steel frame, aluminum oxide turbo guides and tip top
  • Super tough solid tip construction
  • EVA comfort foregrip with tough slick butt
  • Machined aluminum double locking reel seat

  • Shimano TLD25 Reel Description: You don't need a big boat to catch big fish. In fact, there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't catch a 250-pound thresher shark from your 20-foot center console boat. Unless you left your TLD at home. If you own a small fishing boat, or you often find yourself elbow-to-elbow with your angling compatriots on the large party boats, you need a reel that's both nimble and versatile. Our TLD reels are light in hand, so easy to shift they're almost mindless, and they're adaptable to any number of bluewater species from tuna to striped marlin. And because they're built by Shimano, durability is an inevitable part of the package. A large, private, ocean-going vessel may be neat, but it's not necessary. Just match the tackle to the situation. And let the fish fall where they may.

An $8.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

Perfect combo for Rockfish!!!
November 8, 2018
After looking for a long time for a replacement for an older trolling rod and reel I was very glad to find this combo. TLD reels are bulletproof and this is my second one. I wasn't sure of the rod but it performed very well and even impressed one of my friends who makes and sells his own rods. This combo is a great value. It performed as advertised and was perfect for rockfish.
Pros
  • Great value for the money and excellent quality equipment.
Cons
  • None so far.

Would this combo be suitable for bottom fishing? (30' and deeper) Looking for heavier tackle combo for jetties, etc.
1 Answer
Hi Joshua, We do not recommend going with the TLD25 combo with the TackleDirect Standup rod as that is an offshore trolling setup for boats. We recommend looking at the Penn Battle III DX combo with the TackleDirect Boat rod ( https://www.tackledirect.com/tackledirect-tdssj63m-silver-hook-penn-btliii6000dx-battle-iii-dx-spinning-combo.html ), or the Daiwa Saltist Paired with a TackleDirect Jigging rod if you are looking for a conventional setup ( https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-saltist-star-drag-saltist35h-reel-tackledirect-tdscj66mh-conventional-jigging-combo.html ). Is this suitable to troll side trackers?  Is it a fast tipped rod?

1 Answer
Yes, this rod can more than handle wide tracker spreader bars. As far as the tip action goes, it's a MH rod rated for 30-80 lb. class line, so the tip would have more flex than a M power, which would be more parabolic.
