Shimano Talavera Boat Rod
February 14, 2022
My favorite rod for inshore and light offshore fishing, I own three models. Caught lots of porgies, blackfish, black seabass, blues, cod, and haddock with this rod. The medium-heavy is fine for porgies in early spring, but I preferred the heavy model for seabass, haddock and blues. Just purchased a extra-heavy model to handle hefty cod when using high-low rigs in Nov - Dec since I often catch two fish at a time. Lightweight rod with a sensitive tip and a sturdy backbone. The MH and H models pair nicely with a Daiwa Saltist 30H, will probably use my Torium 16PGA real with the XH. Nice performance for the price.

Good Rod for Price Point
December 12, 2021
It's not a Terez nor Terrmar, but it's not priced like those, either. Good general purpose rod, I let my kids and guests use it with no complaints.
Pros
  • Reasonably priced
Cons
  • More of a personal preference but action is very slow for my liking.

Excellent rod!

Paired this rod with a Speedmaster II for tarpon in Boca Grande pass. Rod performed well on large tarpon, plenty of power and backbone.
Pros
  • Nice quality rod. Good price point. Flexible tip with strong butt section.
Cons
  • Would benefit from a triangular grip to help keep from rotating in your hand when fighting fish.

Would an Avet LX fit on the 7 heavy action rod , and how many ounces is meant fior the rod
1 Answer
Hi Eric, The Shimano TEC70HC Talavera Boat Casting Rod will fit an Avet LX reel and according to Shimano this rod is intended for Live Bait fishing so a lure weight range is not provided for this series of rods. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

How many eyes are on the 7’ m/h rod.  How does this rod compare to the TDSSC701MHT 7’ m/h?

Thanks, Greg

1 Answer
The 7' comes with 9 guides plus the tip. As far as comparisons go, it would be very similar to the MH Silver Hook rod.

the x heavy fishing rod how many ounces cast at most?

1 Answer
Although Shimano does not list these specs for the Boat rod series, i would assume the XH model would have a max rating between 4-6oz
