The Shimano Talavera Bluewater Deep Drop Rods are the perfect rod to pair with your electric power-assist reel to target the deepest dwelling bottom fish like tilefish, queen snapper, snowy grouper, and more. Built with stout, stiff blanks with a moderate-fast taper, these deep drop rods are designed to handle the heavy loads of large lead weights and bait rigs, and of course, long battles against powerful bottom fish at serious depths. This series features nearly indestructible ALPS aluminum curved butts for optimal fishing directly from a rod holder. Equipped with heavy duty ALPS Aluminum Oxide Guides and a swiveling roller tip, the components of these rods are well equipped to withstand extended exposure to braided lines under extreme drag pressures.

Does Shimano make a rod that works well for deep drop and trolling with a beastmaster 9000a electric reel?
1 Answer
Hi Steve, Based on your fishing application I would recommend the Shimano TZBWSF76HA Terez BW Swordfish Rod. Due to the guide layout and the option for your own rod butt, This would work great with any straight, bent butt, or winthrop adjust a butt to make this the ideal deep drop and trolling set up with a Beastmaster 9000A. The description says aluminum oxide guides; however, it appears that it is an alconite guide but the aluminum oxide legs?

Please clarify.

1 Answer
Hi Larry, According to Shimano, The Shimano Talavera Bluewater Deep Drop Rods use ALPS aluminum Oxide Guides. The guides for these rods have Aluminum Oxide frames but the insert is a different material that is a combination of ceramic and alconite. This allows the mono or braided line used to have a low abrasion resistance on the guides and also allows a smooth surface that resists heating up and doesn't damage the line.
