I purchased the 5000 paired with GLoomis GCX Inshore 7'6 rod. This reel allows me to cast a great distance while I'm fishing the Inlet. It handles blues, fluke, stripers, sea bass, black fish, and porgies with no problems. I bought another 5000 to pair with a 9' surf rod to see what it can do.

Ordered shimano stradic 2500 hgfl on 16 may 2022 and received 19 may 2022. Great service from TackleDirect. However this reel had a different problem from the shimano stradic 1000 hgfl I reviewed before. This 2500 FL reel made a bearing noise. It had no grease on drive gear at all. The pinion gear had grease on very bottom next to where bottom bearing is located . Also had a huge amount of grease below the pinion gear on the main shaft assembly. Removed the grease from the pinion gear and properly greased the pinion gear and drive gear. Bearing sound greatly reduced. Handle has small amount of play not present in 1000 hgfl reel with only a slight grinding noise on top pinion gear bearing.

Yes, a Shimano Grappler would pair well with the 5000 Stradic FL for jigging applications. Which Grappler model to choose depends on the types of fish you are targeting and the weights of the jigs you will be using. The Medium Heavy models rated for 50lb line and 250g jigs would pair well with a reel that size and are a versatile option for a fairly wide range of species and jigging depths.

The best option Shimano Stradic would be the 5000 size. 24 pounds of drag, adequate line capacity and the reel only weighs 9.3 oz's.
You can pair that with a 7'6 or 8 foot rod medium or medium heavy, moderate fast or fast. A good rod that comes to mind would be the

For fishing the surf would you prefer the Stradic 5000 or the Vanford 5000? I'm leaning more towards the Vanford just because of how light it is but I feel like the Stradic has better salt resistance... is this the case?

If you are surf fishing, the Stradic will be the best reel. The Vanford is more of a freshwater/inshore reel and will not hold up in the rough surf conditions. The Vanford is also not heavy enough to balance with a surf rod.

Certainly, this reel is a very well designed overall very salt capable reel. the 5000 model will definitely do the trick for most open beach and inlet fishing

Typically i would recommend a 6'6-7' M or MH rated rod but totally depends what you plan on targeting.
I would suggest looking at the new St. Croix Mojo and Triumph inshore rods

I would recommend jumping up to a Saragosa 5 or 6000 size reel, but if you want to stick with the Stradic I would go with the 5000 model

I would recommend the 4000 just based on how much more drag and versatility that size would provide, However if you are targeting smaller inshore species and doing more casting then the 3000 would also be a useful option. These reels are great, you won't be limited by either option

The FL is in reference to the generation model#, the old stradics were FK, these new are the FL model.
Although this is a very solid tough reel, I wouldn't recommend using it as an offshore reel seeing that they only go up to a 5000 size.
I would recommend bumping up to a Saragosa or twin power if you are looking for more of an offshore reel

You will want to go with a larger reel like a Shimano Spheros or Saragosa in a 6000. The stradic is a much smaller reel and would not pair up well with a 9' 6" surf rod. Spheros and Saragosa are built on a larger body and would balance out really well.

SW Flats fishing in coastal bend of Texas for slot redfish, flounder, and specks. Stradic FL - thinking 3000 size. Maybe use Nanofil 14 or 20 poundfor more distance with a fluorocarbon leader. Throwing soft plastics, popping corks with Gulp, spoons. Any recommendations out there for what length rod, action, weight, brand for distance?

A Shimano Stadic 3000 would be perfect for what you are describing, 14-15lb would help maximize your casting distance and will handle your listed applications. A 7' 6" medium power, fast action inshore rod would be your best bet to do a little bit of everything and help to maximize your casting distance if wade fishing or fishing from land. Stick with same specs and a 7' if fishing from a boat. Couple options below:
