New for 2019, the Shimano Stradic FL Spinning Reels are the latest edition to a line of spinning reels that for generations has served as a benchmark by which all other reels in its class are measured. For years, the Stradic has set the bar for innovation and performance at its price point, and the Stradic FL continues this tradition by putting flagship level performance in the hands of anglers at a price never thought possible. Now driven by Shimano's MicroModule II cold forged gear, anglers can experience unprecedented smoothness and power transfer. Internal components are tuned to the highest tolerances possible with Shimano's Silent Drive technology.

To protect your investment from the elements, Shimano's X-Protect water repellent coating and specially designed water channeling labyrinth construction work to prevent water intrusion and preserve that out-of-the-box effortless rotation for the life of the reel without adding the rotational resistance commonly felt in sealed reels. Euipped with a heavy duty Cross Carbon Drag system, the Stradic FL is poised to be put to the ultimate test against the hardest pulling inshore species. The introduction of the Long Stroke Spool offers enhanced casting capabilities by decreasing the frequency in which your line changes direction while coming off the spool, creating less turbulence going through the guides and resulting in longer, smoother casts. From the lake to the back bays and beyond, the Stradic FL proves itself to be a worthy edition to the Stradic legacy.

Shimano Technology Found in Stradic FL Spinning Reels :

  • Hagane Gear - Boasting amazing strength and durability, Hagane Gear is a process in which the gearing is calculated in minute detail and cold forged instead of being cut. This application of state-of-the-art technologies gives the angler reel smoothness from the first use through years of enjoyment.
  • Hagane Body - A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to its stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler’s actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.
  • X-Ship - By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear remains in precise alignment with the drive gear and stays in the same position under even the heaviest of loads. This eliminates friction between the spool shaft and gear which translates to better casting performance and increased gear durability.
  • MicroModule II Gear - State-of-the-art gear design makes use of smaller gear teeth and more of them, which results in a more efficient gear train and much smoother retrieve.
  • Long Stroke Spool - By increasing the height of the spool, the line is able to be laid on the spool without the spool having to fully oscillate as frequently. This results in the line having to change direction while coming off the spool fewer times during a cast, resulting is less turbulence going through the guides for a smoother and longer cast.
  • SilentDrive - A long list of fine-tuned internal micro adjustments and enhancements that reduce any handle play and noise from moving parts.
  • X-Protect - By combining a water repellant coating and a specially designed water channeling labyrinth construction, X-Protect provides high-level water resistance without adding weight or sacrificing light rotor rotation.
  • G-Free Body - G-Free Body technology enables the reel’s center of gravity to be moved closer to the center of the reel seat, and therefore the anglers hand position. This shift in weight and balance helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano’s A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing’s rotation.
  • Cross Carbon Drag - Allows for a wider range of drag settings, enhanced drag washer durability, and the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.

I purchased the 5000 paired with GLoomis GCX Inshore 7'6 rod. This reel allows me to cast a great distance while I'm fishing the Inlet. It handles blues, fluke, stripers, sea bass, black fish, and porgies with no problems. I bought another 5000 to pair with a 9' surf rod to see what it can do.

    shimano stradic 2500 hgfl
    June 12, 2022
    Web order 1213181
Ordered shimano stradic 2500 hgfl on 16 may 2022 and received 19 may 2022. Great service from TackleDirect. However this reel had a different problem from the shimano stradic 1000 hgfl I reviewed before. This 2500 FL reel made a bearing noise. It had no grease on drive gear at all. The pinion gear had grease on very bottom next to where bottom bearing is located . Also had a huge amount of grease below the pinion gear on the main shaft assembly. Removed the grease from the pinion gear and properly greased the pinion gear and drive gear. Bearing sound greatly reduced. Handle has small amount of play not present in 1000 hgfl reel with only a slight grinding noise on top pinion gear bearing.
    Pros
    • Love the feel of this spinning reel with not much play in gears or handle.
    • Balances well with a spinning rod unlike the shimano stradic C14+ .
    Cons
    • Proper oil and grease maintenance from factory are not applied on this reel or most of Shimano Stradic spinning reels bought before
    • Would only recommend this reel if it had proper maintenance from factory or dealer before sale.

The 40# test line would be the better option without going to a larger pound test increasing line diameter and decreasing line capacity.

With the 5000 would the grappler be a good rod?

    If yes what size

    2 Answers
Yes, a Shimano Grappler would pair well with the 5000 Stradic FL for jigging applications. Which Grappler model to choose depends on the types of fish you are targeting and the weights of the jigs you will be using. The Medium Heavy models rated for 50lb line and 250g jigs would pair well with a reel that size and are a versatile option for a fairly wide range of species and jigging depths.

The Stradic FL 5000 would pair well with a few of the Grappler series rods. Depending on the application the best jigging model would be the https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-grpjs66mh-grappler-type-j-jigging-rod.html and if you are using it for mainly topwater application check out the popping model: https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-grpcs77m-grappler-type-c-popping-rod.html

    Hello Nicholas,

The best option Shimano Stradic would be the 5000 size. 24 pounds of drag, adequate line capacity and the reel only weighs 9.3 oz's.

You can pair that with a 7'6 or 8 foot rod medium or medium heavy, moderate fast or fast. A good rod that comes to mind would be the

St.Croix avid inshore which can be found in this link https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-vis80mf-avid-inshore-spinning-rod-8-ft.html

I really want to buy the Shimano Twin Power 4000PG (2015 model I think) but can't find somewhere that sells it, so I wanted to know how the Shimano Stradic FL compares to the Twin Power 2015 model. Is it "better" or "worse"? If anyone knows where I can buy a Twin Power 4000PG please tell me. Thanks.
    1 Answer
Hi Ryan, The Shimano Stradic FL would be more for inshore fishing applications and would not be as strong as the Shimano Twinpower series. However, we only carry the current models of the Shimano Twinpower 4000 models at this time. The Shimano TPSW4000XGC Twin Power SW C Spinning Reel, Shimano TPXD4000XGFA Twin Power XD FA Spinning Reel, and Shimano TP4000XGFD Twin Power FD Spinning Reel as these have replaced the previous generations and would be the closest susbtitutes for the reel your looking for. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tpsw4000xgc-twin-power-sw-c-spinning-reel.htmlhttps://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-twin-power-xd-fa-spinning-reels.htmlhttps://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tp4000xgfd-twin-power-fd-spinning-reel.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Hi Ashley, The Shimano Stradic 4000 FL Spinning Reel will pair well with a Shimano Talavera 7'6" Medium-Heavy for inshore fishing applications for redfish, and sheepshead. For Sharks you will need a heavier rod such as the Shimano TLXS72H Tallus PX Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tlxs72h-tallus-px-spinning-rod.html This would be ideal for fishing for Shark fishing applications. Could the 5000 be used with the appropriate rod for muskie fishing? It involves a LOT of casting. Lure weights from 1 to 4 ounces.
    1 Answer
    2fargone,

The Shimano Stradic FL 5000 spinning reel would be fine for Muskie fishing as it has plenty of drag (24lb) and line capacity (235yds/30lb braid).  The right rod is definitely the more important piece when casting 1-4oz lures all day.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Is the fl2500 or the 3000 the best for flounder and smaller also medium or ml rod
    1 Answer
Both will be good for Flounder. The main difference between these two reels will be retrieve rate and capacity. I would opt for the 3000 size reel and for a rod I would choose a medium rod. I recommend this one: St. Croix TRIS70MF Triumph Inshore Spinning Rod

For fishing the surf would you prefer the Stradic 5000 or the Vanford 5000? I'm leaning more towards the Vanford just because of how light it is but I feel like the Stradic has better salt resistance... is this the case?
    1 Answer
If you are surf fishing, the Stradic will be the best reel. The Vanford is more of a freshwater/inshore reel and will not hold up in the rough surf conditions. The Vanford is also not heavy enough to balance with a surf rod.

what kind of rod. Size action for a stradic fl 3000? thank you
    1 Answer
Typically i would recommend a 6'6-7' M or MH rated rod but totally depends what you plan on targeting.

I would suggest looking at the new St. Croix Mojo and Triumph inshore rods

I have a Diawa Procyon 701MHFS would you recommend the Stradic 3000 or 4000 ?
    1 Answer
I would recommend the 4000 just based on how much more drag and versatility that size would provide, However if you are targeting smaller inshore species and doing more casting then the 3000 would also be a useful option. These reels are great, you won't be limited by either option

Whats the meaning of fl , and is it offshore reel ?
    1 Answer
The FL is in reference to the generation model#, the old stradics were FK, these new are the FL model.

Although this is a very solid tough reel, I wouldn't recommend using it as an offshore reel seeing that they only go up to a 5000 size.

I would recommend bumping up to a Saragosa or twin power if you are looking for more of an offshore reel

IM PLANNING TO PAIR THE 5000 SIZE ON AN ST CROIX AVID SURF 9'6. WOULD THAT BE A GOOD COMBINATION OR SHOULD I GO TO A BIGGER REEL? I WOULD BE USING THIS FOR SURF AND CHUNK BAIT FISHING.THANKS
    2 Answers
You will want to go with a larger reel like a Shimano Spheros or Saragosa in a 6000. The stradic is a much smaller reel and would not pair up well with a 9' 6" surf rod. Spheros and Saragosa are built on a larger body and would balance out really well.

Looking at possibly getting the 5000 size for an inshore/freshwater live bait reel. Any rods in the 7th length you can recommend to pair up nicely with that reel? I’m not planning on using really large baits or sinkers.
    1 Answer
The 7' Medium (SCR-0829)  or 7' Medium-heavy (SCR-1363) would pair nicely with that reel.

SW Flats fishing in coastal bend of Texas for slot redfish, flounder, and specks.  Stradic FL - thinking 3000 size.  Maybe use Nanofil 14 or 20 poundfor more distance with a fluorocarbon leader.  Throwing soft plastics, popping corks with Gulp, spoons.  Any recommendations out there for what length rod, action, weight, brand for distance?
    1 Answer
A Shimano Stadic 3000 would be perfect for what you are describing, 14-15lb would help maximize your casting distance and will handle your listed applications. A 7' 6" medium power, fast action inshore rod would be your best bet to do a little bit of everything and help to maximize your casting distance if wade fishing or fishing from land. Stick with same specs and a 7' if fishing from a boat. Couple options below:
