The Shimano Stradic FK Spinning Reels were designed with technical inshore anglers in mind, who demand toughness and durability in their spinning reels. Building upon the revolutionary series of spinning reels that inshore and freshwater anglers alike have come to love with the Stradic series of spinning reels, the FK leverages Hagane gearing and body for the ultimate cranking power and unmatched rigidity on top of other top Shimano technologies such as X-Ship. Whether you are targeting striped bass in the northeast or redfish, speckled trout, snook and more in the southeast, you will find the perfectly sized Stradic FK Spinning Reel to match your application.

Shimano Technology Found In Shimano Stradic FK Spinning Reels :
  • Hagane Gear - Boasting amazing strength and durability, Hagane Gear is a process in which the gearing is calculated in minute detail and cold forged instead of being cut. This application of state-of-the-art technologies gives the angler reel smoothness from the first use through years of enjoyment.
  • Hagane Body - A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to it’s stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler’s actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.
  • X-Ship - By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear remains in precise alignment with the drive gear and stays in the same position under even the heaviest of loads. This eliminates friction between the spool shaft and gear which translates to better casting performance and increased gear durability.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano’s A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing’s rotation.
  • Aero Wrap II - Utilizing a patented worm gear design, this two-speed oscillation system lays the line onto the spool in a X pattern that reduces line-on-line friction and helps to increase casting distance.
  • Aluminum Cold Forged Spool - Provides increased strength and durability over diecast aluminum or graphite spools.
  • Propulsion Line Management System - The most obvious component of this system is the Propulsion spool lip design, which has been proven through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations to provide longer casts while preventing backlashes and wind knots.
  • Super Stopper - Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way stainless steel roller bearing to eliminate back-play in the reel and provide the angler with instant power when setting the hook.

Hagane Body: Metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms your actions directly into cranking power.
X-Ship: Provides greater power transmission efficiency through the use of large precision cut gears with increased bearing support
Aero Wrap II: is a worm gear oscillation system with specially designed pitch to create optimal oscillation speeds. This provides great uniform line lay to reduce loss of energy during the cast shape and thickness of the aluminum rotor creates high rigidity that results in more fish fihgting power. Increased mass of this rotor generates more inertia resulting in easier fishing of heavy jigs and high resistance lures

A worthy reel to last a lifetime
May 3, 2022
I have been using this reel for over 5 years now. So, I have put this reel through its paces.
I use this reel for anything from surf perch to yellowtail/tuna/Durado up to 35lbs. The drag is exceptionally smooth on big fish with plenty of power. I've taken it beach fishing many times and have never dropped it in the sand but the reel has stayed very clean internally through all of it's trips. I have only oiled it after every 10+ trips and it feels smoother than the day I bought it. A fantastic reel that I know for a fact will last my life.
Pros
  • Smooth Drag
  • Powerful
  • Stays clean from beach and saltwater use
  • Very smooth action
  • Nice clicker sound
Cons
  • Needs bigger knob for bigger fish (20lbs+ fish) but this a preference.

Largemouth bass, Peacock bass, payara and piranah
April 6, 2020
I am new to bass fishing, bought two of the 2500 for poppers and jerk baits for a 3 day fishing trip to mexico, El Salto lake, caught over 100 fish on one reel up to six pounds, Lightweight, great drag and very smooth. Then took reels to Colombia fishing for peakock bass, payara and piranah. The guide told me the reel looked to small. Over the course of five days fishing caught up to 30 peacock bass up to 15 lbs, reel worked flawlessly! Plenty of drag to keep the bass from going in the shallows or wrapping around underground tree branches. Biggest Payara was 15lbs, and again, the reel stopped the fish from getting into the current and swimming off. I just could not believe how such a small, lightweight reel performed! Also, I used max quatro 30 lb for largemouth bass and 65lb for peacock's. Got almost 100 yards on the spool, which was plenty! Rather than change out the line, I ordered extra spools from Shimano and delivered next day for free!
Pros
  • Great reel, pricey, but you get what you pay for!

Love this reel
February 3, 2020
I have a bunch of FK Stradics and they are the best reel you can buy for under $200 if you can still find them. They are very light, have decent line capacity and are very smooth. As you can see from the 5k has a different handle. I am not sure if I like it more then the handles on smaller reels. The other handles are comfortable. So if you're considering a 4k or a 5k that and the line capacity are the biggest differences.
Cons
  • The FKs are getting harder and harder to find.

Bad luck with this Reel
October 23, 2019
Bad luck with this reel, bring out for offshore trying after receiving this new Stradic C5000XG-K, it was very difficult to reel with little seabass and scup. The worst reel I has bought so far, Maybe just bad luck with a factory defect reel.

Solid inshore reel

Big things come in small packages - the 2500 size holds true to that saying. I've used the Stradic 2500 to catch just about all inshore fish, and does a jam up job. Light weight, smooth drag, and bullet proof...what more could you want?
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Smooth drag

Awesome reel....
September 11, 2019
These reels are pretty darn awesome... relatively light and very smooth. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the bail on mine feels a little weak/loose. Not sure if it's just mine.or if it's normal. But either way it was able to handle a 35 inch pike, with no problems.
Pros
  • Smooth reeling
  • Awesome drag
  • Relatively light weight
Cons
  • Loose bail

Could this reel be paired with a St. Croix 7'6" mojo inshore 15-30#, fishing for 15-25 lbs yellowtails in Baja? If so would you recommend spooling with 30# braid and 20# top shot?
1 Answer
This sounds like a great setup for your target species so long as you aren't using heavy sinkers and bait. If you are you may want to look into a heavier rod.

Hi guys, I'm trying to put together a combo for throwing metal for Spanish on the OBX. The stradic 5k was my first thought for a reel, but I'd like a recommendation for a rod to match it with. Thinking 9', as light as possible that will throw 2oz with 10lb. mono. Not looking to break the bank. Maybe an Airwave? Thanks
1 Answer
The Tsunami TSAWSS-902MH Airwaves Surf Spinning Rod or the Daiwa EMP902MFS Emblem Surf Spinning Rod would match up well with the Stradic 5000 FK for throwing metal around the 2 oz range.

Is this reel a good match for Shimano Trevala rod : TVS66M ? I am planning to use it for vertical jigging and silicone lures in depths from 20-100 meter .
1 Answer
I would recommend only using that reel for fishing up to 50 meters. Depending on what pound test you are using, you might not have enough line fishing in 100 meters of water. If you use 20 lb braid you will be find at that depth.

I'm interested in the Shimano ST5000XGFK for saltwater fishing such as for mahi mahi. Is it suitable for that? Also any guess as to when it will be available? What would be a good rod to pair with it? Thanks, Dan
1 Answer
If you were going to be using the reel for exclusively small mahi, it would work. Even then the reel might be a bit too small. If you are just pitching lures/bait to dolphin at places like crab pots, I would recommend the Shimano Saragosa in the 5000 or 6000 size. As far as a rod goes, a 7ft inshore rod with a heavy rating would work well. The reel is currently available, and we do have it in stock.
