Packed full of proprietary Shimano technologies to help you dominate the most challenging environments, the Shimano Spheros SW Inshore Spinning Reels set a new standard for affordable saltwater spinning reels. The Spheros SW is driven by Shimano's cold forged Hagane Gear that provides incredible strength and durability while the rigid Hagane Body keeps the gears and internal components in perfect alignment, preserving prime rotational operability for many seasons to come. Cranking power is enhanced with the use of Shimano's X-Ship bearing supported pinion gear technology, while the Cross Carbon Drag system gives the reel the drag pressure necessary to put the brakes on bull reds, and big striped bass. Treated with a CoreProtect water resistant coating at key areas to prevent water intrusion, the Spheros SW is prepped to withstand the punishment of unforgiving saltwater environments for multiple seasons to come.

Shimano Technology Found in Spheros SW Inshore Spinning Reels :

  • Hagane Gear - Boasting amazing strength and durability, Hagane Gear is a process in which the gearing is calculated in minute detail and cold forged instead of being cut. This application of state-of-the-art technologies gives the angler reel smoothness from the first use through years of enjoyment.
  • Hagane Body - A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to its stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler’s actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.
  • X-Ship - By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear remains in precise alignment with the drive gear and stays in the same position under even the heaviest of loads. This eliminates friction between the spool shaft and gear which translates to better casting performance and increased gear durability.
  • CoreProtect - The concept of CoreProtect is simple – to provide exceptional water resistance without creating any additional rotational resistance on the retrieve. The reel is treated at key areas such as the roller clutch, body, and line roller to resist water intrusion.
  • Cross Carbon Drag - Allows for a wider range of drag settings, enhanced drag washer durability, and the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano’s A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing’s rotation.

para mi que practico pesca en mar y en embarcaci?n es ventaja que el carrete sea clasificado SW, pues sabemos que mientras vamos navegando el agua salada salpica y teniendo esa protecci?n no te preocupa que se da?e los internos.
(For me, who practices fishing in the sea and on a boat, it is an advantage that the reel is classified SW, because we know that while we are sailing the salt water splashes and having that protection, you are not worried that the internals will be damaged.)

Pros
  • costo - beneficio al ser SW
  • ligero para ser un carrete clasificado sw
  • estructura fuerte
  • poder de arrastre suficiente para el tama?o 3000
  • (cost - benefit to be SW
  • light for a sw rated reel
  • strong structure
  • Sufficient pulling power for size 3000)
Cons
  • capacidad de linea (line capacity)

Quality Sturdy Reel
August 31, 2021
I'm happy with the purchase and the reel does everything I need. Just wish spare spools were less expensive.
Pros
  • This reel is clearly of high quality and is sturdy at the same time. I like the heavier bail wire. Is quite smooth in its performance and has a very good drag. An all around quality product for the price.
Cons
  • Nothing overall so far. Not sure if I'll miss the lack of an anti-reverse switch. Sometimes I like to feed out line when float fishing just by reverse cranking. Feathering line out with the bail open is not my preferred approach when fishing for quick steelhead and salmon, but it will work with most other fish.

Most important is not heavy and you can cast all day long.

I have 2 questions. 1.What it the difference between this and the Nasci. 2. Will more sizes for this reel come out in the near future?
1 Answer
One of the main differences in the reels is that the Spheros has the hagane body which makes the reel more rigid and is less prone to the body of the reel flexing when fighting a larger fish and as far as we know the Spheros is going to stay in the smaller sizes like the 3000.

Why does the Spheros3000XGSW weigh more than the Spheros3000HGSW if they are supposed to be the same sized reels? Do they have a different body or something?
1 Answer
Hello Antonio,

The difference in weight between the two 3000 size reels is due to the spc model being the compact design which makes in closer to a 2500 size body and the other 3000 model being more of a traditional 3000 size

Looking to put this reel in a 4000 size on my trevala px medium action or run a diawa bg 3000 which do you reccomend more gona use it as a spinning bottom fishing setup for fluke and sea bass
1 Answer
Hi Mike, Based on the fishing application, The Shimano Spheros 4000 SW is currentIy out of stock. I would recommend a Shimano Stradic 4000 size. Specifically Model: ST4000XGFL; TD Code: SHM-3810. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-st4000xgfl-stradic-fl-spinning-reel.html This reel is very lightweight,, Has a strong drag, and has a very corrosion resistant body that can tolerate consitent saltwater use. This would be a great match with your Shimano Trevala PX for fishing fluke and seabass. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Would the 4000 size make for a good tog jigging reel?
1 Answer
Hi Jeremy, I would recommend either the Penn Spinfisher VI 4500. Model: SSVI4500; TackleDirect Code: PEN-1675.https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-spinfisher-vi-ssvi4500-spinning-reel.html Or a Shimano Stradic 4000. Specifically model: ST4000XGFL; TD Code: SHM-3810. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-st4000xgfl-stradic-fl-spinning-reel.html. Both of these are saltwater reels that can be used for tog jigging. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

I have asked previously if spheros SP3000XGSW shares body with SP4000XGSW and I received a reply that they do not. Then I acquired both reels and they indeed share the same "body". The body on SPC3000HGSW is smaller (compact). If you compare SPC3000HGSW and SP3000XGSW you will see that they have same size rotor, spool, and handle, but the body on SP3000XGSW will be slightly bigger than SPC3000HGSW, it is because it does not have a compact body but has the same "body" as SP4000XGSW. SP4000XGSW looks bigger than SP3000XGSW because it has larger handle, larger rotor and spool, but "body" is the same. It is frustrating that even USA shimano website has wrong parts diagram listed for SP3000XGSW, they have SPC3000HGSW pdf file for SP3000XGSW reel.

Travis
from Ohio asked:
February 10, 2021
Can you confirm that SP3000XGSW does not share the body with 4000 size?  In JDM market 3000 size simano uses body from 4000 and rotor and spool from 2500. Letter C stands for compact body. So technically sphetos SPC3000HGSW should have same body as all shimano reels in 2500 size and SP3000XGSW should have a compact rotor and spool from c3000 but body from 4000 size reel.
1 Answer
The SP4000XGSW and the SP3000XGSW do not have the same body size.

Does the 4000 size share the same size body as the 3000 xg or are they completely different and would a 3000xg spool be interchangeable with the 4000xg?

The SP4000XGSW and the SP3000XGSW do not have the same body size and do not have interchangeable spools.

Which would be a better choice for inshore fishing this or a penn battle III dx
1 Answer
These reels are a very well designed reel for inshore use, boasting impressive power and drag specs this reel is priced very well for what youre getting,

I would recommend this Spheros SW over the Penn Battle DX, the only advantage the Penn will give you is more line capacity, but  provides less drag, and is an overall heavier weighted reel
