6 months I have use this rod and let me tell you, I have not a single complain, I can easily cast it over 100 yards, I have caught I a couple of sharks that were easily over 50lbs and the rod seemed like it could take so much more, at 150$ don't hesitate its a beast of a rod!
Pros
  • casts like butter
Cons

Shimano speed master 10'6" and 12'
September 22, 2021
This 10'6" rod is awesome for surf casting plugs for stripers . It loads nice and casts way over 100 yards. Strong backbone brings in large stripers with ease. Very light so my arm and shoulder doesn't cramp up. I also got the 12' for chunk bait fishing and it casts way out with bait and sinker. Very strong for fighting fish and landing them. I will probably buy more in the future.
Pros
  • Very light and strong.
Cons
  • Would like cork wrap for handle.

Other shimano saragosa 50000 load with 60 Lbs beyond braid line. Both rods are great with the set up. I caught big GT with this shimano speed master rods and with this reels.
Pros
  • Great prices.

110MH2 Surf Rod
January 12, 2021
Paired it with my Saragosa 10K and Stella 14K for surf fishing in Cabo along the Pacific. The rod is great, however I think this model was too heavy for casting into the open surf for Sierra using jigs. Worked really well with poopers. Going to use this rod from now on when I'm casting near rocks and need to muscle in big fish. Since the price is really reasonable, I picked up a lighter Medium model with more action which should solve my problem and improve my cast.
Pros
  • Really strong rod and the price is very affordable.
Cons
  • A little to stiff for my usage when targeting Sierra in Cabo with smaller jigs.

Very nice Surf rod that is well worth the money! - 12' Casting option
September 20, 2020
I have a Penn Prevail II of similar specs to compare this to and I can say that it is worth every bit more than the Penn cost and then some...although the cost is not that much more. I love my Prevail 12' but did not realize how much the casting performance could be improved until I used this. I would give the Penn a slight edge in toughness but that's typical for Penn. The Shimano is skinnier in profile and feels better with my reels in my hands specifically for anything more than soaking bait (Shimano Tranx 400, Penn Fathom II Casting Special). Also it is just noticeably lighter and therefore more pleasant for a long day of fishing. The construction and finish are holding up well so far and I wish they would make better sleeves to protect 2 piece surf rods in storage and travel. Tackle Direct make it happen please!
Pros
  • Was not sure about the finger trigger on a 12' as none of my other surf casting rods have them but I find it does add a bit of confidence when trying to muscle a long cast thanks to the extra grip. You don't' really notice it after a couple casts.
  • Weight is on the lighter side of my collection and it is hard not to want a lighter pole once you use one.
  • Closest to boutique performance I have gotten without the hefty price tag.
Cons
  • None so far other than needs a worthy case to protect the investment.

I'm really pleased to to have this heavier rod now. Had spare reel and got this rod specifically for bigger baits and it works great at a fair price.
Pros
  • Trigger grip adds comfort and gives me confidence for more aggressive casting.

A lot of rod for the money
January 22, 2020
Great rod that feels like it has the power of a one-piece rod despite being a two-piece. The rod doesn't load extremely easily, but you get used to it quickly. Depending on the retrieve, rod works well with the walking baits (surface and sub), pencil poppers, spoons, poppers, and stickbaits that I've tried on it. Rod doesn't have as much sensitivity as I'd want for dragging the bottom with bucktails but can do that job too. Overall a fantastic rod at this price point.
Pros
  • 2-pieces
  • sturdy
  • looks great
Cons
  • rod can be hard to load

Love thus rod for the beach casting! I've teamed it up with several different reels and it works great with everything from a 5500 to a 7000 pro rocket.
It's the medium heavy and it handles any fish I've had on so far. I'm looking forward to getting another.
It's a very comfortable rod to fish with in the surf.
Pros
  • Well built, solid rod.
  • Confortable.

Which is the lightest rod? Best for casting around 4-5 oz lure weights? Thank you in advance.

For either 3 of these rods to be considered the "best" is up for debate. In my personal opinion the speedmaster Is the most balanced out of the three.

Here are three options I would recommend:

Penn Spinfisher VI SSVI6500BLS Spinning Reel- This is model has no bail on it which takes time to get use to but after getting the hang of it having no bail is pretty fun.

Hi, I asked a previous question (thanks for responding), but I have one other question. Between the the 12 foot medium heavy, and just heavy, what are the main differences between them besides reaction speed. Which would be better to catch 3 foot sandbar sharks?
1 Answer
That would pretty much be the only different. the 12'HF action rod will be much stiffer and provide more back bone when casting large baits and heavy sinkers, and give you a little more power when fighting these fish.

the 12' MHMF action rod will provide a softer feel compared to the HF model, I think you would be able to get away with the MH model for these size fish, it would make it more sporty, but if you mean business on these fish i would recommend the 12'hf
