PJ, This reels is not meant for saltwater use, It can be used but I would recommend you washing it off after every use with fresh water if you do purchase it.

Spare spools should be available directly from the manufacturer. The part number depends on the size reel you have / want. Shimano Customer service number is 877-577-0600.
