Providing tournament-level performance and quality at a price point all anglers can appreciate, this Shimano SLX Casting Rod and Reel combo offers anglers a multitude of potential combinations to cover a diverse range of techniques. SLX Casting Rods are built with a number of quality components, including a custom Shimano Reel seat, titanium oxide guides for years of dependable performance, and comfortable high-density EVA grips that pair perfectly with the sleek cosmetics of SLX. Whether you are throwing topwater lures to schooling bass or pitching your favorite creature bait into matted grass, the high-quality 30-ton graphite SLX blanks deliver the optimal blend of strength, sensitivity, and action.

Perfectly pairing up with SLX rods, the SLX casting reel provides that same high-performance not commonly seen in a reel this price. Built on a Hagane Body that is 20% more compact than the Shimano Caenan and yet retains the same line capacity, the compact SLX palms exceptionally well while allowing the angler to pack on enough line for long casts. The body of the SLX is made entirely of highly rigid metals that produce a solid platform that both reduces weight and eliminates reel flexing when cranking on fish or pulling them out of heavy cover. The VBS centrifugal braking system is extremely user-friendly and effective at preventing backlashes and increasing casting distance in a variety of conditions. Shimano offers the SLX casting reel in both left and right hand as well as 3 different gear ratios - further cementing SLX as a tournament-level offering at an affordable price that anglers of all ages and skill levels are sure to enjoy.

This still a great combo
August 16, 2022
I recently started bass fishing so decided try this combo even thought there are much newer models and even new SLXA rod coming out. I already own the SLXDC/SLC610M, extremely easy to use but wanted a MH rod in this combo as well as a second reel. Even with my experience with conventional surf reels I still struggled with 15lb flouro on this reel. Been getting pretty bad backlash even brake/tension adjusted. This could very well be user error. I have no problem overhead casting 20lb braids recently switched to 40lb braid for heavier application still doing great.

Bang for the buck!

Just received my new combo yesterday immediately went out to give it a try. It is already tuned to the middle setting for braking which most companies don’t do. It casts really well and brings in fish like butterđŸ§. Caught my new pb on the first day with the new rod and reel!

The reels are so good for the money. The rods are terrible but for the price of this combo its really a no brainer. I would 100% recommend them for the money.
Pros
  • Value pricing!
Cons
  • Rods are fragile and not very sensitive.

There is not another place you can find the slx combo this cheap. I was told this rod was the best budget priced jerkbait rod on the market and the cheapest i found it was 99 dollars. At tackle direct, i got the slx rod and reel for 129 dollars. I am excited to find it at this price.
Pros
  • Very affordable
  • Very light
  • Very sensitive
  • The reel is so smooth
  • Cast great
  • Is hard to backlash

Great combo at an unbeatable price!

Very smooth and light in hand. The MH pole is perfect for keeping the bait pinned in giant bass mouths. I got to break it in on a 6 lbs 14oz beauty.

Great off the shelf combo, it would be very difficult to find a better matched set. The reel is very smooth and comfortable to fish all day and the rod is amazing. Great feel and great quality, it’s a Shimano so you can’t go wrong especially at this price point. Good job Tackle Direct for killing it with this price.

Great value combo
July 19, 2021
This combo is a great value, and is nice for those looking to step up out of the true entry level gear. The 6'10" M is great for jerkbait fishing, and other lighter treble hook baits. The reel itself is of good quality, and casts a good range of weights with very little adjustment needed.

Great deal

I bought the 7’ MH 150xg combo. I really like it for 3/8oz and 1/2oz baits. Little heavy for 1/4oz I think. Overall great combo

Shimano SLX combo
April 21, 2020
I normally buy combos, just quicker and easier for me do run out a grab one. This is hands down my favorite combo. the reel cast smooth and easy the crank is even smoother. the rod is of excellent quality and I have had zero issues with either all year. I mainly kayak fish so at times my casting ability is very limited when so I always pick up my SLX.
Pros
  • Smooth casting and reel
Cons
  • none so far

Great Bang for the Buck Combo
February 10, 2020
You will not find a better all around bass casting combo at this pricepoint than this. Went with the 6'10" MH with the SLX150HG reel and it is perfect for topwater, bladed jigs and spinnerbaits. Rolled with it all summer and have no complaints.
Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • No external break setting on the reel, but for me that is not a deal breaker as the internal break are easy to set and once you get them where you want it there is no need to fiddle with them.
