BFS Casting Rods? Where are they?
September 29, 2021
I purchased the Shimano BFS Curado reel that alleges bait casting down to 8 and even 6 lb mono with a 16th oz lure. I bought the reel and then could find no available rods. I ordered the Sensilite Rod which was on on back order. And in the mean time threw the reel on an old pistol grip Skyline graphite casting rod about 5 ft but way too stiff. First outing got into a 6.5 lb LM off the bank on a weightless 3" senko.. I got the fish in and the reel performed fantastic. Probably 5 to 8 minute fight and lots of clicking drag.

After the Sensilite Rod arrived that has been my combo. It casts great with the BFS Curado. Very accurate and long casts with 1/16 to 1/4 oz soft plastics. I have only caught dinks with this set up tho. Not sure if this rod can set the hook on a large bass over 5 pounds. But it seems the best available at the time and a very good price.

Terrific Ultra-light bait casting rod
January 8, 2021
I purchased two of these rods and so far they are exceeding my expectations. I was looking for a rod that would easily cast unweighted plastics and Ned rigs. These rods are very fast action with light tips and cast small lures a mile. I would rate them five stars but I haven't owned them long enough to rate them for durability-- a question mark for me with rods this light and insexpensive. Hope they hold up.

Excellent trout rod for late winter specks, light action makes working twitch baits extra slow as breeze, as makes any sized fish a fun fight.

I have used this rod a few times already, great rod for finesse presentations. Easily throw small in-line small spinners, easy to pitch also. I have this paired up with a 15 Shimano Aldebaran BF XG limited and 10 lb mono.
Pros
  • Throws small baits easily. Price is great.
Cons
  • Need more options for length. Hopefully they will come out with some more models in the future, understandably this is a new model in the US.

This may be the perfect rod

I have not had a chance to fish with it so time will tell. I am trying to downsize my bait casting to lite to ultralight. I want to use weightless plastics more and finesse style jigs. In the past I have had to use my spinning gear for that style fishing and with this rod I am confident I can do it. Took it into the back yard and did some casts. I am impressed. I can’t wait for some more good weather so I can hit the local rivers or ponds and give it a real test.
Pros
  • Light weight, fast tip, quality build

Which inexpensive reel (preferably Shimano) would be best suited to this rod, using 15# Power Pro braid? Would Kast Master. braid be suitable for this rod?

Hi Dee, Depending on what your fishing for I would recoomend a Shimano NEX2500HGFI Nexave FI Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-nex2500hgfi-nexave-fi-spinning-reel.html This would pair well with the Shimano Sensilite Light action rods rated up to 15lb Powerpro for many light fishing applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
