Had one of these I bought as a combo w/ a 2500 Sienna & spooled it w/ #8 Stren. Found myself using it a lot as my go to rod & it will handle 6/7+ lb Bass. Decided to get another but couldn’t find one anywhere...
But..Tackle Direct had em so I bought 2! This is a good rod!!
Pros
  • A light rod. It has enough backbone to handle large fish.
Cons
  • I can find no fault with this rod

Took a bit of time to find a rod that would handle the brush and terrain while creek or small river trout fishing, and a rod that allowed me to fish lakes. Nice action for setting hook, good balance.

Outstanding Rod
April 8, 2014
This rod is awesome for the price. I am a die hard Shimano reel fan and never had a Shimano rod till now. I purchased this rod for the ease of packing it away when I am on a trip ,because my main rod is a one-piece GLoomis GL2. I am not kidding when I say that this rod is lighter than the GL2. This rod has the finesse to flip any bait or lure into a tight spot ,as well as the power to muscle out a fish from cover. Given the price of this rod I would recommend it to anyone.
Pros
  • Price, Casting precision, and the Craftsmanship of this rod even though you pay pennies for it.
Cons
  • None so far.

What reel would be a good fit for this rod? Fishing for trout and catfish mostly.
1 Answers
The Shimano SH500FE Sahara FE Spinning Reel would be a great reel pairing it with the Shimano Sellus Travel Spinning Rods for freshwater trout and small catfish.
