The Shimano Sedona FI Spinning Reels are built with cold forged HAGANE gears. They are lightweight to reduce fatigue during long days of casting/jigging. The drag power is upgraded and gear ratios have been increased. Of course they have a perfect lower end price point to fit any angler's budget.

Wonderful reel

Great Reel, however, I set this up for salmon, and they make this reel scream, love another 5-7lbs of drag to bump up the total drag. But for the price point, I knew that might be the case.

Very smooth
May 3, 2022
I bought this because I wanted another spinning reel that I could depend on. Ive been buying Shimano reels for almost 30 years and I still have 5 of my light action reels. I took this reel to the OBX and it cast and retrieved smooth as butter. I'll be taking it out to catch some black sea bass and cod in a few weeks. I'm sure it will make pulling those fish on the boar alot easier.

This thing is beautiful! Well made and reels like butter....smooth and quiet. Took it out several times already and have not had any problems. Feels like a very high-end reel at a great price.

Great saltwater reel!
March 1, 2022
Being someone who fishes saltwater twice a year, I wasn't about to blow $200+ on a new reel, so I went with this one in the 4000 size, and as per usual shimano didn't disappoint. The drag is very strong, smooth, and consistent. I like the large handle, and it is very smooth. Excellent reel overall.
Pros
  • Smooth
  • Comfortable, Large handle
  • Good line capacity
  • Strong, consistent drag
Cons
  • Must be thoroughly rinsed and maintained after each use in saltwater since it isn't sealed

Good Economy Reel
February 3, 2022
Better than I expected for $75. I purchased this for a spare rig to loan out when friends or family join me to fish and don't have their own gear. I paired it with an $80 13 Fishing Rod and they both function really well. The only drawback is this real is heavy by today's standards but noob's don't know the difference.
Pros
  • Decent Drag. Performs better than I expected for a $75 reel
Cons
  • Heavy

Great saltwater spinning reel
July 4, 2021
I have used other reels but this is my preferred saltwater inshore reel. I use 10 pound Braided line with a mono leader and catch large redfish, trout, sheepshead, tripletail, grunts, sea bass and others with no problem. I have even caught 30 pound black drum with this set up. Smooth, light, durable and affordable reel that I highly recommend.

On the Shimano Sedona 8000FI, what does the FI stand for and is it different from the 8000?
1 Answer
Hi Jim, According to Shimano, The FI for the Sedona FI Series is only referring to what exact model it is. The letters represent what model series and exact year the series is. That has nothing to do with the reel or how the reel performs in any way. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What rod would match up with shimano Sedona 8000
1 Answer
Depending on the type of fish you are doing. The Shimano Sedona 8000 would be paired with different types of rods. For example, if you wanted a jigging setup, you would choose a smaller rod. If you were going to be shore fishing/surf fishing, I would get a much longer rod to ensure maximum casting distance. I recommend browsing through jigging, popping, and surf rods to see what best fits your needs as a fisherman.

Would this pair well with an Ugly Stik Bigwater Medium 7ft rod?
1 Answer
That would work. The 6000 would be more ideal, depending on what you are fishing for.
