Making use of the industries' most advanced manufacturing practices, the Shimano Ocea Jigger Star Drag Conventional Reels were built for the jigging enthusiast looking for the ultimate in unbridled performance. The Ocea Jigger offers unprecedented cranking power thanks to a multitude of features. Equipped with Shimano's cutting edge Infinity Drive technology, a new main shaft supporting structure is utilized to reduce friction with the pinion gear, resulting in greatly improved rotational torque. Rotational torque is also enhanced by an adjustable long crank handle to provide the angler with superior leverage over heavy loads. With two different adjustable handle positions, anglers can choose from positions that enhance either speed or power to better suit their jigging application. A buttery smooth retrieve is ensured with MicroModule gear. The X-Protect feature enhances durability and preserves that out-of-the-box effortless rotation by utilizing a labyrinth construction that channels water away from key internal components, combined with a water repellant coating. Housing the Ocea Jigger's internal components is a compact aluminum frame that is both lightweight and easily palmable, putting unparalleled fish fighting power in a package that is comfortable to use and will reduce angler fatigue during long jigging sessions.

Features:

  • Two position adjustable long crank handle offers all day jigging comfort
  • Exciting drag sound allows anglers to know when they are in jeopardy of pulling hooks or breaking off
  • Auto-Clutch return to easily bring the reel in and out of freespool and react quickly to bites
  • Spool lock allows anglers to more safely break off when they snag bottom
  • New trouble free drag star design which allows for easy adjustment
  • EI coating on the spool surface in order to prevent corrosion
  • HG and PG gear ratios to properly pair with various jigging styles
  • Shimano's best-in-class S-ARB bearings to provide long lasting performance

Shimano Technology Found In Shimano Ocea Jigger Star Drag Conventional Reels:

  • Hagane Body - A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to it's stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler's actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.
  • Micro Module Gear - State-of-the-art gear design makes use of smaller gear teeth and more of them, which results in a more efficient gear train and much smoother retrieve.
  • Infinity Drive - Through the use of new main shaft supporting structure to eliminate friction within the pinion gear, reels with Infinity Drive achieve increased winding torque, along with an incredibly smooth and light rotation under heavy loads.
  • Exciting Drag Sound - Produces an audible drag sound to provide the angler with better feedback when a fish makes a run.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano's A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing's rotation.
  • E.I. - Shimano's proprietary treatment on the spool and body that allows for advanced corrosion resistance that's more than twice as effective as the conventional surface treatment.
  • X-Protect - By combining a water repellant coating and a specially designed water channeling labyrinth construction, X-Protect provides high-level water resistance without adding weight or sacrificing light rotor rotation.

Smoothest reel on the market. Effortless retrieve, even on 30-40lb fish. Compact and light. Just a pleasure to fish.
Pros
  • Smooth and powerful. Star drag has more click stops than a Trinidad. Compact and light.
Cons
  • 5 more lbs of drag would be nice, though you’re fine without it. EVA ball knob handle would be a nice option for those using this for tog and not slow pitch fishing.

This is my primary jigging reel set up
April 26, 2020
I use both the 1500 and 2000NRHG frequently. I like it more that valiant 500N by accurate. so smooth, reliable, strong. great inches per crank, good drag. One draw back: careful on the cast because the handle will spin around and close the bail and then...DUCK! I have grown accustomed to opening my bail and pressing my knuckles against the handle when I cast with the drift. I won't use anything else personally!
Pros
  • SMOOTH!!!
  • great inches per crank
  • enough drag to stop big fish
  • looks awesome
  • light weight
Cons
  • handle winding and closing bail on a cast

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting the 1500HG and spooling it with 30lbs braid to jig/bottom fish in anywhere between 200 to 500 feet of water. I'd be fishing slow jigs and madais anywhere between 3 to 6 or 7 ounces. What rod pairing would you recommend for this application?

1 Answer
Hi Rabin, Based on your fishing application, I would recommend a Blackfin Deep Stix Slow Pitch Jigging Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/blackfin-deep-stix-slow-pitch-jigging-rod.html This would pair well with a Shimano Ocea Jigger for your slow pitch jigging application. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Fishing for yellow fin and big eye in the Northeast canyons. We are generally jigging from 50 to 300 feet although water depth usually over 1000 feet. The tuna we are catching range from 20 to 150 pounds. Which model OCea jigger And rod would you recommend? Also would you recommend replacing the handle with a longer power handle and do you have available?
1 Answer
Hi Chris, For your fishing application I would recommend a Shimano OCEAJG4000HG Ocea Jigger Star Drag Conventional Reel and a Black Hole 52B 350G Cape Cod Special Jigging Rod. The handle of the Shimano Ocea Jigger can be adjusted for your preference so another handle is not necessary. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-oceajg4000hg-ocea-jigger-star-drag-conventional-reel.htmlhttps://www.tackledirect.com/black-hole-52b-350g-cape-cod-special-jigging-rod-conventional.html This would be a ideal setup for any size Tuna Jigging applications for the Northeast. i am thinking about buying the shimano ocea jigger 4000. I would like to have it spooled when I pay it. How do I do that? Do i order the line that I want and send a message with it saying spool it with this line?
1 Answer
Hi William, When placing your order, please include a note in the comments section with your specific spooling instructions. We are able to offer our house monofilament free of charge with the purchase of a reel, just include the lb test and the color you prefer. If you would like your reel(s) spooled up with a specific monofilament other than our house mono, braid (solid or hollow), or fluorocarbon line, please add that to your order along with your spooling instructions within the notes. Any line that is left over will be shipped with your order. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Targeting big ling cod off So. California using a deep dropper rig at about 600 feet depths or deeper.  Looking at the Ocea Jigger 2000NRHG vs. 4000HG.  Pros/cons of getting the larger Ocea Jigger vs. the 2000 size (besides the price)?  Also, which Terez conventional rod would pair well with the 2000 size Ocea Jigger or with the 4000 size Ocea Jigger for this application?  Deep channel and currents off So. Cal coast so often use 12 - 20 oz. bank sinkers -- lots of cranking.
1 Answer
Hi Rob, Based on your fishing application you described, I would recommend the Shimano Ocea Jigger 4000 size. Specifically model: OCEAJG4000; TackleDirect Code: SHM-4269. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-oceajg4000-ocea-jigger-star-drag-conventional-reel.html. This model will allow you to use more braid due to the line capacity. This model also will give you the most torque due to the lower gear ratio. I would pair this up with a Shimano Tallus PX Conventional Rod. Specifically model: TLXC70XH; TackleDirect Code: SHM-4281. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tlxc70xh-tallus-px-conventional-rod.html. Since you are fishing heavy lead in deep water this rod and reel combo will be easier to straight crank in a Large Lingcod in 600+ feet of water with ease. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Other than the handle, what is the difference between the Ocea Jigger and Trinadad A?
1 Answer
While they are extremely similar in design they have do features that made them very different. The Ocea Jigger while offered in limited sizes compared to the Trinidad that has 5 different models and sizes to choose from. The Trinidad's also have a higher drag capacity then the Ocea Jiggers. Also the Ocea Jiggers have the option to buy the lower gear ratio model to have more torque, most of the Trinidad's come with 6:2:1 Ratio. So if you needed a lower ratio for jigging with a slightly longer shaft the Ocea Jigger may be the option to go with. However if you need something with more capacity and higher maximum drag the Trinidad may be the best option.
