Performs flawless, nice line lay, casts a mile, extremely dependable.

This is my second Shimano Nexave reel.

The first one I bought is still going strong with no issues. Routine care and they last forever.

Nice inshore reel
April 13, 2021
Great for the price.I purchased this reel to use as an inshore reel and one that I could also use as a backup for freshwater. The reel is great. It casts smooth and I like the drag. Though the reel handle seems small for a 2500.

Solid, smooth performer

Got this reel as a backup to my Spheros 8000. Very smooth operation with plenty of cranking power due to its low gear ratio and trademark Shimano gears. A great purchase for $59.99!
Pros
  • Very solid feeling
Cons
  • Some handle play (minimal)

I own the 2500 and I love the design
September 10, 2020
First week out surf fishing I shot the bearings.

More bearings are on the way from third party.

The 2500 I own I use primarily for the waterway and it takes a dip and it hasn’t given me a problem.

Surf fishing is just rough on reels and bearings are not cheap.

I love these reels.
Pros
  • Lightweight and affordable
Cons
  • Did not meet expectations for a week of heavy surf fishing.
  • Don?t give it a beating

Good reel for a cheap price of admission but not built to last
September 10, 2020
I have fished this reel in the surf almost every day for the past month and a half. It has the typical shimano qualities and is very smooth. I have lost count on how many stripers I have caught with this reel and it has handled them well. For someone who fishes only a few times a month this is a great reel for the price. If you're a surf rat like me then you need an upgrade in the durability department
Pros
  • Great price,. Smooth retrieve. Good drag system
Cons
  • Not sealed and not ideal for frequent use in prime surf conditions

Great spinner for inshore fluking
September 1, 2020
Couldn't resist picking this Shimano reel up for some inshore reef fluking
Pros
  • Shimano quality at an affordable price with a smooth action and great drag
Cons
  • Line capacity could be a bit more but isn't a deal breaker for inshore action

Difference between FE and FEC?
1 Answer
The fe is sold in a box the fec is sold in a clam shell. The clam shell packaging is a clear plastic package like you would see on a shelf in a big box store like walmart.

Is this a good reel for bass fishing? Also, is there a rod, at a reasonable price, you would recommend to go with the reel? I need to keep the price reasonable because my daughter is buying this for me as a Christmas gift.

Thank you for your assistance,

William

1 Answer
Hi William, I would recommend a Shimano Sedona FI Spinning reel. Specifically Model: SEC3000HGFI; TD Code: SHM-3361. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-sec3000hgfi-sedona-fi-spinning-reel.html. This would go great with a Shimano Sellus Spinning rod. Model: SUS66MA; TD Code: SHM-3937. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-sus66ma-sellus-spinning-rod.html. This would be a great setup for various kinds of freshwater bass fishing applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What is a clam pack?
1 Answer
A clam pack is typically for big box retail stores, this just means instead of the standard 'box' that reels come in, it is instead in a bifold clear plastic packaging that closes around the reel like a 'clam'
