Built with Shimano's highest-performing rod blank technologies, the Shimano Grappler Type LJ Jigging Rods excel at light jigging applications in near-shore waters. The Grappler Type LJ features a moderate-fast action perfect for imparting lifelike action on bucktails and soft plastics, while retaining enough backbone to steer fish away from structure if necessary. Northeastern anglers will find them ideal for jigging fluke and black sea bass, while Florida anglers will enjoy the Grappler LJ for jigging over shallow reefs for red snapper, grouper, jacks and more.

Shimano's Grappler series rods are built from blanks utilizing their proprietary Spiral-X and Hi-Power X construction that produces the most powerful, lightest, and most sensitive blanks available. Spiral X construction consists of multiple layers comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions, resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This construction results in an extremely responsive rod that allows for instant power transmission while casting or jigging and greatly enhances fish fighting capabilities. Spiral X blanks are 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than standard blank construction. These cutting edge blanks are fitted with Fuji Alconite guides and an SiC tip, along with comfortable EVA handles. The end result is a rod that delivers sharp and crisp precision control that is extremely light to reduce angler fatigue.

Awesome Rod for Light Jigging
February 5, 2022
Extremely light! It can handle jigs up to 180 grams but in my opinion it really shines for jigs up to 100 grams. Pairs great with 4000-5000 size reels. One issue is it does not have a hook keeper a Fuji EZ hook keeper solves the issue and it does stay in place pretty well.
Pros
  • Extremely light
Cons
  • No hook keeper

med action rod

I set my rod up with a sustain 3000 and Maxcuatro 20lb line. I used it for bucktailing/gulp for fluke and sea bass out to about 30 feet or slightly deeper. Definitely did the trick and light as could be to fish with all day.
Pros
  • super light and sensitive.
Cons
  • you have to work hard to find a negative. You get what you pay for!

Is this rod thinner than your trevela s. I own a few of then and was wondering if this would be a up grade. 20lb power pro Thank you in advance. Any coupons available?

The Shimano Grappler 6'3" Type LJ is only slightly smaller than the Shimano Trevala S Jigging Rod. 20lb braided line would work great on the grappler as well.
