Designed for use with a wide array of jigs and jigging techniques, the Shimano Grappler Type J Jigging Rods utilize Shimano's highest-performing rod blank technologies. The Grappler Type J is perfect for anything from jigging over near-shore reefs for mid-sized bottom fish to butterfly jigging for giant bluefin tuna, and everything in-between. These versatile jigging rods feature a moderate-fast action perfect for imparting a natural action on bucktails and soft plastics, while retaining enough backbone to steer fish away from structure, making them the ideal for wreck fishing.

Shimano's Grappler series rods are built from blanks utilizing their proprietary Spiral-X and Hi-Power X construction that produces the most powerful, lightest, and most sensitive blanks available. Spiral X construction consists of multiple layers comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions, resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This construction results in an extremely responsive rod that allows for instant power transmission while casting or jigging and greatly enhances fish fighting capabilities. Spiral X blanks are 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than standard blank construction. These cutting edge blanks are fitted with Fuji Alconite guides and an SiC tip, along with comfortable EVA handles. The end result is a rod that delivers sharp and crisp precision control that is extremely light to reduce angler fatigue.

Grappler rod is very affordable
January 11, 2020
Grappler rod is very affordable.
I have many JDM Grappler rods but I decided to get the American version.
The difference between JDM and USM is... 2pcs vs 1pc.
I like 2pcs better when I use the backseat of my SUV otherwise, I love 1pc rod.
Very Japanese style rods, like Major Craft rods TackleDirect carries.

I was considering pairing this rod with a Shimano Trinidad reel. I was looking at the 12A but it does not support a reel clamp where the 14A does have a clamp. Will the 14A fit this rod nicely or would it be too large for the reel seat. Any help with this matter is much appreciated. Thank you
1 Answer
The 14A will pair up nicely with that Grappler rod. The clamp for the reel seat will have no issue clearing the trigger grip either.
