A true marvel of engineering, the Shimano Exsence A Spinning Reel is a lightweight precision fishing machine unchallenged in terms of technology and intelligent design. Sitting atop Shimano's lineup of Magnumlite spinning reels, the Exsence A delivers the perfect balance of lightweight feel and rigid durability for a truly sublime fishing experience. Shimano's MGL Rotor reduces startup inertia to allow more control over the stop-and-go retrieval of lures to entice even the most wary of game fish. This technology also helps anglers react more quickly in pivotal situations, helping you turn light and finicky bites into solid hooksets. The light yet extremely rigid magnesium Hagane Body eliminates flex, ensuring maximum reeling efficiency and power transmission. A multitude of other proprietary Shimano features combine to ensure that the strict standards of performance and durability that Shimano reels are known for are met, including Micromodule II Cold Forged gears, Silent Drive, and X-Protect. The Exsence A comes in sizing that will satisfy both freshwater and inshore anglers, allowing anglers of all stripes to elevate their experience on the water with unparalleled dynamic performance.

Phenomenal Finesse Reel

The Excense 3000 MHG is the ultimate light tackle finesse reel as it is very light yet powerful. Do not be fooled by the shallow spool, it casts with the best of them in the 3000 class and holds plenty of line for the backwaters. Having owned just about every Shimano spinning reel from symmetry’s to Stella’s, if you fish a lot this is worth every penny for the long run.
Pros
  • Extremely Light but well built
  • Great drag
  • Casts jigs very far
Cons
  • None

It's ok. Better options from Shimano

So Im currently upgrading my reels from Stradic FL , Vanfords , Twin Powers Fd , Twin Power xd to Stella's and was going to be the exsence.

Unfortunately the exsence is not as lightweight as I was hoping for. Vanford is by far Shimanos lightest weight reel they have.

So I'm sticking with Vanfords for my lightweight reels and Stella's for my other reels.

Also the exsence spool does not hold 150 yards of 10lb power pro.. I put a small piece of tape on the spool to avoid using backing. The reel only holds about 90/100 yards of 10lb power pro.
Pros
  • Awesome Design
  • Super Smooth reeling
  • Super smooth drag
Cons
  • Super shallow spool ( only 90/100 yards of power pro 10lb ,)
  • Weight of the reel ( should be lighter )
  • Price ( could be lower for what it is. Stick with the Vanford over this reel )
  • Sold this reel and bought another Stella FJ
