The Shimano Curado I Baitcasting Reels are best used for both saltwater and freshwater, and are offered in multiple gear ratios. These baitcasting reels are built with the latest in Shimano fishing reel technology.

  • X-Ship: X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear is eliminated, enhancing the casting performance with lighter lures, and allowing for longer casts.
  • SVS Infinity: Shimano's newest innovation in brake system technology. SVS infinity provides easy to manage, consistent spool control and brake force on the new Curado I series baitcasting reels. With brake weights that use inner friction against the raceway during the cast, this controls spool speed especially when using lighter lures, plus external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits. This combined with X-Ship technology gives anglers precision cast control
  • Shimano Stable Spool Design (S3D):Leads to signifigantly reduced spool vibration. By designing a balanced and uniform thin wall aluminum constructed spool, this creates an incredibly smooth feeling when casting and retrieving lures.

Smooth

The Curado is smooth and fast. I've shied away from baitcasters in saltwater because of the wind. Not a problem with this reel. Have not had a backlash yet. Can cast much further than my other reels.

Awesome Reel at an Awesome Price! Tackle Direct Always comes through.
June 6, 2015
I have had several generations of the Curado, from the BFS super free when they first came out well over a decade ago, and through several disappointments in the Curado, finally, a reel that can truly bare the Curado name without it being just a facelift. The technology in the new entire Shimano Line is something I have come to love. This reel has incredibly smooth casting, a smooth retrieve, comes in 3 handy speeds that caters to your type of fishing situation and scenario, and is just a great reel for the price. I have several Anatares, Calais, JDM reels, and so on….and I still find myself reaching for this reel. And with Tackle Direct, I can always rest assured that the reel is fresh, hasn't been tampered with by going through the bidding site even with buy it option, etc….Tackle Direct just rules.
Pros
  • X-Ship is a bit technical, but pretty nice to have in this reel. Even in the Stella SW-B ('13 SW), it is a nice option. The reel is just buttery smooth and is light, casts well, and is just fun to fish with. Can handle any freshwater bass or fish you can throw at it and is also an excellent inshore rod when fishing for specs, flatties, reds, etc.
Cons
  • None. Great reel for great price.

A generation that truly honors the Curado legacy
May 31, 2015
I've just started to fish with my new Curado I. I usually go for snook, barracudas, jacks. The casting is really good, smoother and longer than my old Curado E (also a superb generation of the Curado). I've used 4 times until now and I'm totally satisfied with this equipment. I would recommend it to anyone who loves bait casting.
Pros
  • Accurate construction
  • Ergonomic
Cons
  • No cons until now

Great Value - Great Price!
May 31, 2015
Picked this reel up right inside their retail store in Egg Harbor, NJ. Very comfortable in hand and ergonomically pleasing. Nothing it better than picking up a new reel, it being lightweight and comfortable to fish with all day!
Pros
  • Low profile, Great price point, and looks great!
Cons
  • There is a gear sound on retrieve. Seems like they all do it and I am not concerned with Shimano's durability.

Would this be a good to pair with a shimano trevala? I already have the rod but looking for a lightweight reel for jigging rockfish/lingcod. Thanks
1 Answer
A Curado would work paired with a Trevala, but some might feel the reel is a little small for your application. You might want to consider a larger baitcasting reel like the Tranx 300 or Daiwa Lexa 300. Also, if you do want to go with the Curado, this particular model (Curado I) is discontinued and no longer available, you will want the newer model, the Curado K.

The St. Croix TIC70MHF3 Tidemaster Inshore Casting Travel Rod would match very well with the Shimano Curado for Peacock bass in the size range your aiming for.
