Offering versatility that is unequaled by the rest of the tournament-tested Curado lineup, the Shimano Curado MGL 150 Baitcasting Reels combine precision spool control with the convenience of a 150 size reel. By combining MagnumLite (MGL) Spool technology with a 150-sized spool, the Curado MGL 150 enables anglers to fish different techniques with various lure and line types with ease. This versatility makes it the Curado MGL 150 the perfect reel to pair with your favorite "workhorse" rod that you fish many different techniques with. An MGL Spool is lightweight and requires less start-up energy due to decreased inertia and results in longer casts with reduced effort. This technology is especially helpful when fishing with lighter, more difficult-to-cast lures like finesse jigs, tiny crankbaits, and weightless soft plastics. By offering an MGL Spool in a 150 size anglers are not limited to finesse oriented techniques by things like low line capacity. The Curado MGL 150 is just as efficient at throwing a shaky head as it is at slinging magnum crankbaits or heavy Carolina Rigs. Shimano engineers built the Curado MGL 150 to handle giants with a rigid aluminum HAGANE Body and durable Cross Carbon Drag. Precision gearing lies nestled at the heart of reel with Shimano technologies such as X-Ship, MicroModule Gearing and SilentTune to create an unmatched smoothness and efficient transfer of energy when winding. Smooth, efficient, and tournament ready, the Curado MGL 150 is a true workhorse baitcaster that is well deserving of its place in the legendary Curado lineup.

Best reel for salmon/steelhead fishing
August 8, 2022
I've had tons of baitcasting reels from the original Curado's, Metanium MGL, Daiwa Steez A TW, etc. This reel is just as good as the top ones. Smooth, lightweight, good line capacity, the drag is amazing. Overall, a really really good real that can be used for many types of fishing. The metanium was a little too small for my liking so I sold that and have been using this Curado instead and have zero complaints. I did have an issue with one I ordered from another retailer. It came in and the reel wasn't spinning freely. I replaced it and bought one from TD and it is perfect.

Curado MGL 150 HG and XG
February 10, 2022
Loved the HG so much that I purchased the XG. I love the form factor, look and feel of this new Curado. It's a little larger than the 70 size but not as big as the 200. Casting is lights out, drag is smooth and strong enough for most applications. Spool is a little wider than the 70 size spools giving me room to thumb the spool easier.
Pros
  • Back to the Curado roots. Very easy and fun to fish with. Light enough to cast all day.
Cons
  • Smooth but not as smooth as the my Met B or Antares but what is? For the price and all around performance you can't beat it.

Still getting used to the left hand retrieve although I am right handed I have always used a right hand retrieve but the real itself is extra small cast very well and for the price you can’t beat it
Pros
  • It cast and retrieve very well extra smooth on I retrieve
Cons
  • The only card I have is me trying to get used to the left hand retrieve

Amazing castability.

I own 2 Curados in 200 size, and they are great reels. I bought the MGL model specifically to fish for Pacific Stripers with 1/4-3/8 oz jigheads and paddletails. I need distance as I fish from shore. The larger reels are good casters but the smaller jigs and tails are just not heavy enough to get out there. I am able to get around 50 yards using the MGL with 10 lb. mono. Nice smooth drag as well. Small profile is easy to cup. Excellent reel.
