Redesigned for 2019, the Shimano Caius Baitcasting Reels are perfect for beginners or budget minded anglers. Compact and versatile, the Caius adeptly casts lures in a wide range of sizes and excels at throwing lightweight presentations thanks to Shimano's Super Free Spool and Variable Braking System (VBS) technologies. VBS Braking uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast, resulting enhanced spool control and fewer backlashes. This braking system features internal adjustment points as well as an external dial for fine tuning your casts on the fly.

Great reel for the money
March 13, 2021
I'm primary a salt water angler but wanted to try out a bait-casting reel without spending too much money. I love shimano so settled on this reel. At first, there was a little bit of a learning curve to get it dialed in but after a few days of fishing I've grown to really like this reel. I've landed some monster carp (20+ lbs) and it handled flawlessly, especially the drag. It has also performed great for bass fishing, fishing mostly senko's and top water frogs.

I've enjoyed this reel so much, I'm upgrading to a higher-end Shimano. I can't fish freshwater with my spinning reels anymore.
Pros
  • Once you get it dialed in, it is a great reel for the money.
Cons
  • It takes some adjustment for each lure weight and is pretty finicky. You'll get some rats-nests while you figure it out.

I bought this for travel as I didn't want to risk losing a expensive reel. The reel had performed excellently when I went down for some bass in kissimmee. Once got back home this was my loaner reel but it has held up very long
