Shimano Butterfly Flat-Fall Jigs are a totally new concept of the Butterfly Jigging technique. Drop the jig down to the bottom or desired depth, then crank it up 30 feet and free spool. Alternatively, cast the jig and let it fall while free spooling. Wait for the bite, then jerk and repeat. The center balanced jig falls with a wobbling action in a horizontal position, keeping it in the strike zone longer than the ordinary Butterfly jig.

Great Lure
April 11, 2016
Does its job, what else can you say? Cast it in, open your bail and let it sink. Once it hits the bottom reel it in half way and let it drop again. Keep an eye on your line, once you see it moving, close the bail, reel in your slack and then hold on!
Pros
  • Quality construction and strong hooks.

Great jig for the price. Great for slow pitch. Very detailed and seems like it should be pretty durable.

Caught a few nice fish the first trip out. Could be sold with 4 hooks and a ball bearing swivel to connect the mainline for a complete ready to fish jig.

Great construction. Hooks probably won't handle the big guns, so you might want to consider replacing them.

I catch limits with the jig every single time. I lost one and had a problem finding them online so I purchased 5 so I will never be without again. The 80g is the perfect weight.

I noticed the assist hooks are placed at the base of this lure. If I wanted to add assist hooks to the top, will this impede the action of what this jig was designed to do?

1 Answer
Hi Danny, The Shimano Butterfly Flatfall Jigs are made to fall flat and therefore adding hooks to the other side of the will not hinder the action much. It may add a big of drag with the extra hardware. Please let us know if there was anything else we can assist you with!

If I want to use a flat-fall jig for targeting grouper or other bottom fish, is there a rule of thumb for determining what the jig weight should be in a given depth of water? What jig weight would make sense for 40, 60, and 90 feet of water when targeting grouper?
1 Answer
Hi Tom, Jig weight would be strongly dependant on the conditions your presented with that day. It would be best to have a small variety of different sizes to have your presentation be perfect in any situation. I would recommend sizes from 80grams to 200grams. This would cover a large variety of both calm and rough conditions and currents. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-butterfly-flat-fall-jigs.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. I have noticed two set ups for this jig, one with the hooks on the top (by the nose) and one with the hooks on the tail of the jig the way it comes in the package. What's the best way to set up this jig?
1 Answer
Either way works. Some fish hit prey from the back, some hit the head.
