Upgraded to provide additional power and enhanced functionality, the Shimano BM9000A BeastMaster Electric Reel is Shimano's premier power assist reel for deep dropping. Featuring an enhanced version of the brushless GigaMax Motor that gave the original BeastMaster its reputation for unwavering power, the BM9000A achieves 10% more winding power than its predecessor. With a maximum winding power of 290lbs and a staggering 55lbs of maximum drag pressure, the BeastMaster 9000A is capable of going toe-to-toe with biggest, baddest monsters of the deep. Incorporating a Thermo Adjust Drag system that provides a 50% heat reduction, along with Heat Free System II that allows any built up heat to release through the side vents within the reel's side plate, the BeastMaster 9000A is masterfully designed to withstand the punishment of multi-hour battles with giant tuna or swordfish. Normally reels with this type of power and capabilities are extremely heavy and cumbersome, while the BM9000A weighs in at only 52.4oz and is easily maneuvered around your boat after the initial hook up. Whether you are kite fishing, deep dropping for tilefish and other deep water dwellers, or even daytime swordfishing, the BeastMaster 9000A is up to the challenge.

Shimano Technology Found In Shimano BM9000A BeastMaster Electric Reels:

  • Hagane Body - A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to its stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler’s actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.
  • E-Exciting Drag Sound - Produces an audible drag sound in place of a mechanical clicker to provide the angler better feedback when a fish makes a run.
  • GigaMax Motor - A brushless motor design that provides the angler with extraordinary torque, high speeds, and supreme durability.
  • Thermo Adjust Drag - A control function designed to suppress abnormal heat generation of the drag so as to maintain stable drag performance. If the drag slips while the motor of the electric reel is on, the gear will idle and cause an abnormal heat generation in the drag portion. In order to suppress this heat generation, when the drag is slipping, the motor speed is automatically reduced.
  • Heat Free System II - Dissipates motor heat through vents in the reel's side plate to ensure the GigaMax Motor delivers peak power all day long and does not overheat.
  • Fine Dot LCD - Ultra-Clear LCD Screen remains easily readable even in full sunlight.
  • Cross Carbon Drag - Allows for a wider range of drag settings, enhanced drag washer durability, and the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano’s A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing’s rotation.

So much tougher than expected!!!
June 7, 2022
Bought one before a trip in 21 and as delicate and concerned about its durability as I was I can assure u that it truly is A BEASTMASTER! Haha doubt anything come close in price range .. recently bought 2 new lindgrens but it wasn’t because my beastmaster failed! Infact caught this 400 lb sword with it over 4 hrs lol pic below and this monster yellow eye .. with sword I did have water constantly INSTANTLY boil off reel when poured bottles over it during hard part of the fight haha BUT IT NEVER GAVE UP and packs a serious punch for its size … mine fit 1050 yards of Jerry brown 100 lb patriot on it
Pros
  • Very fast
  • Very small for line capacity and power
  • Draws very little power
Cons
  • Honestly don’t have anything really think off … did boil gallons of water immediately when poured bottles on it but was fighting a 400 lb fish over 4 hours soooo guess kinda pushed past expectations maybe lol idk but Never gave out and drag still seems work perfectly…
  • Idk if would last for consistent large swordfishing catching beasts which why recently purchased 2 Lindgren sv 1200’s …. but 100-150 lb fish zero problems and will catch odd monster too if has too haha
  • Keep constant bottle fresh water pour on it to cool if does hahahahahaha

BM9000A - Worth the Price
October 10, 2021
Purchased a pair a few months ago. Use them on a 16-foot boat for bottom fishing; and trolling as well.
Really enjoy them and glad to have made the investment.
Pros
  • Very quiet compared to other similar-sized electric reels.
  • Perfect for small boats.
Cons
  • Minor - Battery clips are a little small to be used on standard battery posts so you may want to change them out.

A tilefish master
September 6, 2021
It has done the job for us right out of the box. It makes hauling 4 lb weights from 800 feet easy, not to mention 35lb golden tiles.
Pros
  • Can pull as hard as the drag setting for the 65lb braid we used on it.
  • Makes deep drop fishing easy.
Cons
  • We wish it ran on 24 V but that?s not a common need.

Classy
March 3, 2021
Smooth, powerful and nicely designed. Manual is a little confusing (apparently was translated from Japanese or written by a non-native English speaker), but "over and over till we learn!"

I did "modify" the power cable by removing the alligator clips and installing a Marinco plug so I can simply plug into my Scotty downrigger power ports--don't have to worry about having the battery compartment open, and the plug locks in. The factory may not approve, but it works great!

Great Electric

I actually have the previous model. The new version has increased power. Reel is really well built, has a powerful drag and is a great option to get into some deep dropping without breaking he bank with some of the other products on the market. Really easy to use and program.

Does it come with a power source?

If not, how is it powered  ... boat battery?

Does Shimano make a battery or someone else?

1 Answer
Hello Thomas, the BM9000A comes equipped with alligator clips and is powered by a 12 volt marine deep cycle battery. Manufactures such as optima and Interstate batteries will work for the BM9000a

1 Answer
Hi Trond, The Beastmaster 9000A unfortunately does not have the option to change the electric drag sounds.

Deciding to buy Shimano BM9000A BeastMaster Electric Reel when it becomes available  and which Rod  is recommended to pair with?To go deep fishing at Montauk, NY.  How long is the warranty if reel needs repairs if the motor burns out or other repairs if needed? Do you add the line to the reel when purchased? When trip is planned for Florida would the Beastmaster Bm900A be a good choice to fish for king fish and swordfish. Thank you.

1 Answer
Hi Jason, Based on your fishing application, I would recommend a Daiwa SEABG70XH-SF Seaborg Dendoh Swordfish Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-seabg70xh-sf-seaborg-dendoh-swordfish-rod.html This would pair well with a Shimano Beastmaster 9000 A for Swordfish and deep drop applications. The Shimano Beastmaster 9000 A has a 1 year manufacturer warranty. We can definitely assist you with the spooling of your reel. When placing your order, please include a note in the comments section with your specific spooling instructions. If you would like your reel(s) spooled up with a specific line please add that to your order along with your spooling instructions within the notes. Could this also be used as dredge reels for triple tier  marlin dredges? Have conventional reels but interested in getting some electric for deep drop but would help justifying if I could also run dredges
1 Answer
Hi Zack, the Shimano BeastMaster BM9000A is intended to be used for deep drop, bottomfishing, and kite fishing applications. This would not be capable of pulling dredges for marlin. I would recommend a Lindgren-Pitman S2-1200 Commercial Electric Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/lindgren-pitman-s2-1200-electric-reel.html This reel has the power needed to pull dredges for various offshore fishing applications. Larry

December 20, 2021
What will be the run time for the reel when using a marine deep cycle battery (12 or 24 volt) rated for 100 amp hours?
1 Answer
Hi Larry, Shimano recommends using a battery with a minimum 10Ah capacity for all day use. If you are using a marine deep cycle battery that should last for days if fully charged. There is no set hours for the amount of battery power used for this reel due to the variablitiy of power used between anglers on boats. Hi Andrew, Depending on what species you are targeting the Daiwa Tanacom Dendoh Offshore Deep Drop rods are great for for tilefish and rockfish and other species. The Shimano BeastMaster 9000A has a 'Pick Up' button that when hit will retrieve the line/weight from whatever depth you dropped it down to.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
