Best cost/benefit in inshore rods category - my favorite for fishing in Florida's inshore
May 21, 2020
I've close to 20 rods, all kind of purposes (jig, spinning, casting, etc.). Brands and models varying from the famous japanese Zenaq (best in its category, for open sea's large fishes) thru the excellent Brazilian Redai (my favorite while fishing in Amazonia) and a couple treasures from G-Loomis, Megabass, etc.
This Shimano Zodias is my favorite for fishing inshore in Florida (shallow waters, mangrove, flats, channels). I've caught from snappers to tarpon, from snook to sharks and rays, with this. I've two, one original and one I customized (after breaking the tip in an accident in the mangroves, I fixed with and I discovered the shorten (4 inches less) blank had then a faster action. What I like most is this is a light (low weight) rod with strong power (to hold and pull a 38" snook or a 40" tarpon).
Pros
  • Light but strong rod!

Lightweight, awesome rod

I bought the 7’, medium light and paired it with a 2500 ci4 stradic. It was a little top heavy for the way I hold the rod, so I added a small lead weight to the rod butt and now it’s perfectly balanced. Great feel, lightweight, and perfect for finesse presentations.

Joy to hold

Got it for my 10 year old son who used a spin casting for the longest time, but missed a hug bass, he loves it paired it with a 2500 sustain, the handle feels great, the parabolic tip is wonderful. my self and son have used many different kinds of lures and performs wonderful with 20lb Power pro silk. We plan on using it for light duty surf fishing.
Pros
  • versatial rod
Cons
  • wish it had a hook keeper
