Bad guides
May 31, 2022
Spiderwire braided line grooved the guides on this rod, had 2 of them and both had this issue, reached out to PureFishing who replaced them with new ones since they’re still in warranty to get the same results!
Pros
  • Toughest blank on the planet
Cons
  • These guidelines are BAD.

nice upgrade to the original
February 23, 2022
bought one of these last year to upgrade my 6ft standard ugly stick that is at least 20 years old. i ended up with a 6'6, really kind of preferred the 6ft model. it does feel slightly different overall, but is stil la really nice rod for the money. can handle pretty much anything that swims in your pond or lake
Pros
  • great rod for the money
Cons
  • wish they still made a 6ft model

Nice rod, cheap and nice. The guides are kind of flimsy.

Good bang for buck

Love to fish ultra lite but some of my rigs are really delicate. This is a tough rod that is fun to use. A 2 lb fish is like a monster on this rig and to me that is what is fun. Better rods out there but not at this price
Pros
  • Durable and fun
Cons
  • None for the price

Good enough
January 18, 2020
Great blank for the money, durable like you’d expect from an Ugly Stik, but the guides are disappointing. Mine had notches worn in to the top 3 or 4 within just a few months, a friend had the same issue with even less use. I’ve been avoiding any of their rods with these guides because of this.

If you’re comfortable re-wrapping upgraded guides when the problem arises it’s a nice rod, but it’s a little ridiculous to have to consider that for a modern rod within the first year of use.
Pros
  • Tough, lighter than the originals
Cons
  • Terrible guides

These rods will addict you. The GX2 looks nice and has the expected durability synonymous with Ugly Stik.

You can't go wrong with Shakespeare

I bought 2 of these GX2 rods and was skeptical at first, but after 3 hard days of fishing on the river, they performed perfectly.
Pros
  • Great quality at a very low price.
Cons
  • Can't really find anything bad about these jigging rods.

Intro spinning rod
April 9, 2019
Should be considered the best intro spinning rod. Has been tried and true to this day. Though not really a fan of the grip. Still handle fish well after so many years. Zero issues with it.

7 Foot Ultra Lite Spinning Rod
February 28, 2019
So, first time going ultra lite with an Ugly Stick. Want something light but durable to throw 1/32 to 1/8 baits in fresh and onshore/nearshore applications, either wading or from kayak. Small prey in spring, want to use lighter line, slow down presentation speed and bait size since water hasn't warmed up yet. It is a comfortable rod to throw. I like cork handles a lot, just a personal preference, but the composite does feel solid and very very good. Surprisingly sensitive rod, can feel lure and light bites, structure thumps, etc. Only reason I am giving 4 stars is the "moderate fast rating "advertised" for the rod, really should be called "moderate". It isn't quite "slow", but there is a significant amount of wiggle in the upper 1/3 of the rod which I am getting used to. I guess it helps to throw light lures a distance(?) but just be aware if you are used to throwing shorter length UL's that are stiffer.
Pros
  • Throws 1/32 to 1/8 excellent distances
  • Comfortable composite grip
  • Sensitive
  • Solid built Ugly Stick / durable
  • Able to stand up to larger fish without concern for "snapping the rod" - it's an Ugly Stick!
Cons
  • Moderate speed rod, not fast moderate
  • Wish it was offered in a 7 foot cork handle (just personal preference) at same price point
  • Color options -- that would be fun - camo? purple and chartreuse? Navy blue and gold, Marine red and yellow..?. in a perfect world

Timeless
April 16, 2018
My first rod that I can remember was an ugly stik and I will always have at least one in my arsenal. Practically indestructible, light, sensitive, and at a price that doesn't make you cringe trekking through the woods or letting your sister's kid use it. Yeah you know the one I'm talking about...

will it hold up
December 8, 2016
Have not had a chance to abuse the rod yet, by abuse I mean test it on these rough golf fish. New guides "look" much stronger than old ones that kept falling out or breaking. only time will tell.
Pros
  • Improved guides, value priced
Cons
  • None yet
