I have the spinning version. beautiful rod and very tuff. I tested it to the ultimate test and no single problem. the only issue that you can't put it in a cover for travel due to teh size of the guides. you need really a wide cover though.
Pros
  • very light
  • very strong
  • quality guides
Cons
  • nothing so far

Nice Rod
May 20, 2017
Ordered the BWCJL 2200 6'3" fishing rod. Item came as described. Quick shipping and liked that it came in a tube, rather than a cheap, flimsy box. The sale price was great and in my opinion, this rod is much better than the newer jigging, casting rods from Shakespeare that don't have the Fuji guides or reel seat, major disappointment. The rod has plenty of backbone for big fish, like the Fuji reel seat, Fuji guides and good EVA grips. General use is bottom fishing several hundred feet down, and throwing jigs.
Pros
  • Fuji Reel Seat, Fuji guides, strong backbone, Nice Eva grips

I purchased this item for use with the Penn Squall lever drag reel. What a sweet combination ! Light in weight and capable of handling some really big fish.
I didn't hook any big ones this last trip. But those i caught were landed without fuss.
Pros
  • Light weight and strong. Very flexible. Trigger grip for jigging.
Cons
  • None

Really like this rod
December 28, 2013
This rod performs exceptionally well. It light and has good power. The grips are very comfortable to hold. I did experience a failure with my first rod where the tip broke off fighting a fish (which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). The rod was under warranty and TD replaced the rod no questions asked! I feel that the rod I originally had was defective because the rod I have now has worked perfectly on numerous trips.

paired this with my penn Baja special. great for bottom fishing and yoyo jigging. very strong rod and yet very sensitive. it has a covered alum gimbal, I love the shape of the the foregrip (similar to shimano terez) and a bonus alconite tip top. last but not the least, very light!!! one reason why I paired it with my ever reliable Baja special!

best jigging rod I have ever owned, I have 4 of them... they are very tough!!! I have caught many 100+ pound tuna on my 5'6" 80-130 tiger with a stella 20000. these rods are 10 times better than the more expensive rods that I have owned and they last 10 times as long to... great buy :)
Pros
  • durable
  • good action
  • cheap
  • good value

What would be a good reel to pair with this rod for inshore bottom fishing off boat? Does it have enough backbone to also troll for Striper?
1 Answer
I would recommend pairing this rod with a Penn Squall 20 or an Avet SX. This rod would be sufficient for striper trolling so long as you aren't trolling 24 or 32oz. mojos. For these I would recommend a heavier rod.
