Got this reel for fishing off the coast of Catalina island. You could be dropping 300ft for ling cod in the morning and fly lining sardines in the afternoon for yellowtail. That ment I need something strong, light and reliable. The SS fits that bill to a T. I matched it with a seeker black steel cork handle 8' 15-25lbs rod and wow. I pulled a 20lbs ling cod up from about 175 feet without batting an eye. The drag is more than ample and smooth as butter. When you get the reel it's a bit stiff, almost like a baseball mit it needs to be worked and played with a bit. You will notice it loosen up and be even more of a pleasure to use over time. Man is this thing light and compact too. It's shocking how small it is but the amount of power it has is very impressive. I love this reel so far and cant wait for tuna season! This is my first truth and absolutely not my last!

Worst reel I have ever purchased. Bad feel to it, box like, squared ends are uncomfortable, loose fitting star, always loosens even after tightening and or you just lightly bump it. They do sell a nice hat though.

I love star drag reels. And I like reels that are above and beyond just a fishing tool. I have 10 Daiwa Ryoga reels of all sizes, which I believe are the benchmark of Daiwa quality......but they are "light tackle levelwinds". Seeing that I like to go monster hunting from time to time. I've smoked the levelwinds on a few reels before (Not the Ryoga's) So I wanted to outfit myself with a extreme duty "high-end" star drag, non-levelwind reel. So I choose the TRUTH SS.
