After Having Several Rods Scratched and even a few Tips broken I decided to buy a Rapala Rod Rack.
The only regret I have is not buying one earlier as they are fantastic.

Holds six rods with reels comfortably. Don't worry about distance between the base piece and the lock-in piece. The design allows for a rod to be locked-in even if you are right on a guide. Hung mine vertically but horizontal shouldn't be a problem. Product is designed to work with multiple units seamlessly, meaning if you need room for 12 rods, buy two of these and you can mount them next to each other to look like one unit. Can't beat the price on this site vs. big box stores that are a few bucks more.
