Nasty Sliced Thumb - Poor Sheath Design
July 24, 2022
The "locking mechanism" on the sheath is on the side, rather than on top as with most other fillet/bait knives with a plastic sheaths.

Tried opening the sheath with one hand while holding a live bunker in the other hand and got a deep and painful sliced thumb.

Yeah, I should have used both hands to take the knife out of the sheath, but bottom line, this injury would not have happened if the "locking mechanism" was on top of the sheath rather than on the side.

Rapala and others offer better options.
Pros
  • Very Sharp

Decent little filet knife. I’ve been using it along the creek bank to gut my trout. It’s sharp too.

Best knife for the money. Holds an edge decently and easy to resharpen. I’ve used the cheap rapala fillet knives my whole life for smaller fish and just general kitchen work. Cant go wrong

Rapala makes okay blades nowadays

This is a knife made to strictly abuse and then chuck out. You couldn't beat the Rapala fish'n fillet knife classic from back in the day though. My pops still has one he uses to fillet fish that was handed down to him from his father and holds an edge like no tomorrow after all those times sharpening it. I personally prefer Bubba or Dexter Russel at this point, but some Rapala's are ok. Just spend the extra cash on a good knife and you will be much happier.
