i have used one of these mated to a standard ugly stik 6ft medium forever. they have recently changes the colors, i am not sure if they changed anything else. but i have worn all of the finish off of mine in the over 10 years that i have had it and it still feels just as good as it always did. cant beat it for 30 bucks.

i will say that i wouldnt use it for anything else though. a penn battle or even a fierce is by far the best budget saltwater reel.

These Optix reels both in the 40 & 60 size are quite amazing for their price. Just getting into fishing? These are hands down better than most reels that come on cheap combos. I have a 40 & a 60 both on Ugly Stik Catfish rods and have used them in fresh and saltwater for several years now and they continue to work just great. Are these the end all answer to the spinning reel world? HA!! Not even close but they work well.

This is a great reel for people that want to get into fishing or want to give as a gift to people to get them into fishing. The price is unbeatable and they are pretty high quality for the price. The one problem that I have with this reel is the handle, after a while it will start to crack.

The Quantum Optix 40SZ spinning reel it's verry smooth and ligth weight.
Its possible to modify if you want more ball bearings, but out of the box work very well.
It's not a shine big name reel but for $15.00 is a gift.

Couldn't be happier with this reel.
Bought it as a backup to keep in the truck and I use it more than my primary bass reel.

If used for saltwater, you must really do your part to rinse and clean them. I've had 2 that have lasted me 4 years. Again , I stress that they have to be clean thoroughly after saltwater use. I've owned 6 in 8 years and with continue to buy more.
