The Quantum Iron Inshore Spinning Reels deliver the best value in inshore saltwater reels. Borrowing features like TiMag from its big brother Cabo, followed by a 1-2 knockout in corrosion from the combination of SCR aluminum and SaltGuard 2.0, Quantum Iron Inshore Spinning Reels pack a punch with higher drag power than the competition. That’s a knock-out punch considering that Quantum Smoke Inshore’s are the only other metal reels lighter in weight in its class.

Features:
  • TiMag
    • NiTi wire never bends like stainless or Aluminum, Magnets never break like springs
  • CSC Drag – Ceramic Drag
    • Extreme power, ultra smooth drag
  • SCR Aluminum
    • Eliminates corrosion and improved strength
  • Saltgard 2.0
    • Superior corrosion resistance
  • MaxCast II Spool
    • Superior casting distance
    • With Braid Band

.We use these for pier fishing all the time.

My buddy has three of them, and seeing as how i do most of my fishing from off a boat, and how if i buy another reel my girlfriend might disown me, i use his every once in a while. I have a couple of Penn spinners, but it disappoints me to say the Penns take a lot of maintenance. I have used both his cheaper model from a different store more tuned to freshwater and they have worked great.

Inshore Kayaking, Thumbs Up
April 21, 2018
I kayak fish for Redfish and Speckled Trout at night in the Galveston Bay complex, have been for a few years. The fishing killed my old stradics, and then quickly killed two Abu Garcia Revo inshores. I have been fishing the Iron PT25s for about 6 months (roughly 2x a week). They handle upper slot redfish (26"-28") with no issue. The drag is smooth and reliable. I fish the PT25 version because it is light enough for good jigging motion; I fish exclusively soft plastics on jig heads. I did recently break a bail wire, but I'm pretty sure that had to do with throwing the rod into the truck at 2AM more than anything else, and anyway, the part number was easy to search for and find on Google, and will be at my door in a few days for $11. (I service my own reels because kayak fishing frequently in saltwater requires it, period.) If you notice, Quantum switched to a one piece handle similar to this on the S3 Smoke Inshore as well. I just picked up a size 40 version of that reel for jetty fishing. I also have a Daiwa Tatula LT 2500D-XH that I bought for the light weight, but it cost me twice as much as this reel, which I consider my true go-to. Expensive reels on a kayak, again, not a great idea. I try to stay under $100 because the sea has taken a few combos due to safety related incidents already. I have two and would recommend these to kayak fishermen who use artificial baits.

You can really use whatever line you want, but you also want to make sure that you are getting enough line on the reel. I would Stick to 10-12lb on the size 40 and 12-15lb on the 50 size.
