$4$ a good bet
August 20, 2022
I have two now, a 50 and a 60. In terms of smooth casting, smooth bail return and firm reeling they are very good. I have no problems with them but I do recommend putting the correct size line on them. If you buy good quality line, these work flawlessly.
Pros
  • Very smooth auto return bail and firm reeling action.
Cons
  • Do not like cheap line.

Cabo 60 is a great large profile reel
May 31, 2022
This Quantum Cabo 60 is a fantastic large profile reel... I'm using it in the surf, but it would be just as great on an offshore plug chucker. Have used 50's inshore for years, and decided to try a bigger Cabo for surf fishing and love it! Great drag, smooth as silk!!!
Pros
  • Too many to list...
Cons
  • A little on the gravy side, but it's expected...

Excellent reel!!!
March 15, 2022
The Cabo 50 is an excellent reel. Good line capacity, very very smooth drag, and lots of torque with the slower 5.3:1 retrieve, and light weight. No problem reeling in big stripers and gator blues. I just wish this thing came with a power knob!!!
Pros
  • light weight
  • lots of torque
  • smooth drag
  • line capacity
  • Quantum has good customer service.
Cons
  • The handle and knob. The knob is very uncomfortable.

Less Expensive Reels are a Better Investment
May 28, 2021
Although the fit and finish are good, and the heft feels more substantial, as long as you take care of it a less expensive Daiwa would have been a better choice.

December 13, 2020
I have the Cabo 50 and I love it. Strong smooth drag system. A little on the heavy side but very durable frame and bail. My drag clicker did brake after catching a bunch of monster sheepshead but the customer service was great and they sent me 2 clickers for free and was an easy fix. I can definitely say i would recommend this reel.
Pros
  • strong/smooth drag
  • very durable frame
  • sealed drag
  • looks cool
  • indestructible bail
  • picks up line fast and reels smoothly
Cons
  • drag clicker is prone to braking but not a big deal
  • a little on the heavy side

Hi, could you tell me what the difference in size and weight is between the 40 and the 50? Also, how much 50 lb braid can the 40 hold? Thank you.
1 Answer
Hi Joseph, The weight difference between the Quantum Cabo 40 and 50 is about 0.4 oz with the main difference being just the spool size of the reels. The line capacity for the 40 Cabo with 50lbs is 210yds roughly and 250yds on the 50. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!

do you recommend using a backer line on the cabo40 spool and then loading the 30lb braid?
1 Answer
Hello Michael,

You can either use a strip of electrical tap so that the first couple of layers of braid bites into it or apply a little bit of mono backing. Either method can be used.

I have 4 oti 300 g spinning rods 6’ looking to pair with Cabo 80’s are these a good choice trying to set up for tuna popping
1 Answer
The 80 would be a decent choice, but the 6' rods may be too small to pop effectively for tuna. Typically with popping rods, you'll want a minimum 7'6" rod.

I'm looking at either a Cabo 50 or 60 for plugging the surf for stripers and blues. I already have an 11ft Daiwa Emcast MH spinning rod and looking to possibly upgrade or just get another rod. Any suggestions on size, power and tip? Maybe a St. Croix, Tica, Star, etc...thanks for the assistance!
1 Answer
The St Croix MOjo 10'6'' Surf rod would be a good rod to look at. The action Moderate and Medium power would be great using it for striped bass and blues while plugging.

Hello I'm looking to pair a 12 ft. surf rod for casting for sharks off the beach. The eyes need to not be small because I need to be able to cast a 80lb mono top shot through them. I have around 200 to spend. I have a cabo 120 spinning reel to pair with it. You got any recommendations on a rod that people use for this application. It needs to throw a minimal 8oz. Thank you.
1 Answer
Casting an 80 lb topshot will be difficult given the size of the knot at your leader connection. I would recommend downsizing the weight of the topshot if you would be comfortable doing so. Twelve foot rods in that price range that have larger guides are the Tsunami Airwave and Trophy series as well as the Tica TC2.

Whats the difference between the Cabo 60 series PTSD's and the PTSE's
1 Answer
Hello John. The PTSE model is the newer replacement for the older PTSD which is no longer made. The only difference is in the newer models, there has been slight improvements made to the gearing for better reliability. The only other differences are purely cosmetic.
