Great saltwater reel!
August 21, 2022
I have the Quantum Boca. I’ve tried a few other reels in the past, but this has been by far the best, bar none. For a reel in this price range, you can’t beat it! It has a solid build, and very smooth action. The best feature is that fact that the internals are totally sealed from the corrosive salt water! I’ve had this reel for years and it still looks brand new, and feels just as smooth as a new one. You won’t be disappointed if you do get one!!!!
Pros
  • Smooth action
  • Great price
  • Great build quality
  • Totally non corrosive sealed internals
Cons
  • None!

Land Based Shark Fisherman - Cast Out Reel

I replaced my Penn Spinfisher 10500 with the Quantum Boca 120 CSP120PTsE and I haven't been disappointed in the least, a little smaller more towards an 8000 size which makes it lighter but a 5 pound bump up in drag. The reel feels super solid and has brought in some nice sharks to be tagged & released as well as some other hard fighting fish all at a little lower price than anything comparable.
Pros
  • Drag
  • Solid Construction (no flexing noticed)
  • Economical Price for what you get, good bang for your buck

almost a cabbo
February 21, 2022
this is almost as smooth as my cabbo. i tested both heavily side by side and eventually bought the cabbo. the extra bearing really made a big difference. but had i neve tried the cabbo, i would have been happy with the bocca. almost everything else is the same.
Pros
  • good drag
  • light
Cons
  • not really a con, but the cabbo is more comfortable and smoother.

Beast of a reel
June 20, 2021
I absolutely love this reel.

Last year I was in one of our local bait shops and stumbled across a custom built spinning rod that was on sale so I bought it. Now having a rod with no companion reel, I started looking for reels to complete the set. I came across this Quantum on sale and bought it. Now this combination is my "go to" when I am fishing offshore (or nearshore). It is usually the first one I deploy when we get setup offshore, either on a flat line with big live bait or on a "sow" or "knocker" rig with big live bait. It has been responsible for catching the biggest fish on the boat. Red Snapper 25lbs, Smoker King Mackerel 40lbs, and Cobia 30lbs.
Pros
  • line capacity
  • smooth drag

Broke early
August 24, 2020
Great big reel with lots of drag but rivet holding handle on broke in half while just retrieving a jig, and gears were grinding loudly. Sent it back to Quantum and they said they would send me a new reel. Sent me a Cabo 80 instead. Not even close to the same size. Shoulda bought a Penn Spinfisher. Oh well.
Pros
  • Good looking, hold lots of line, lots of drag.
Cons
  • Broke quickly, poor customer service.

Powerful Spinning Reel
August 1, 2020
Reel holds the crown in build quality under 200. Brass bearing spool so no need to worry for those high priced spool bearings when you get splashed. Sealed and shielded rotor bearings to prevent contamination on those days the fish are keeping your hands wet.
Pros
  • Braid Capacity, Max Drag, Metal Body, Ball Bearings, Sealed Anti-Reverse Rotor, Easy Bail Action.
Cons
  • If at all negligent, the bail wire is unnecessarily troublesome on the roller side of the rotor when using 30 lb braid on the 40.

Top Value for universal reel

Reel light enough for Stripers and heavy enough for light saltwater use. Well balanced and feels well made. Purchased for my son so I have not used it.

I always wanted to have a reel loaded with mono and a small pencil popper on the front rack. This is the reel I wanted to try, TD made it possible.
Pros
  • Drag, line lay, metal body.
Cons
  • Don?t care for the lack of a ball bearing supported drag but, what can you expect for the money.
  • The bail wire makes me nervous because of how thin it is.

Is the Boca 120 a good fit for a 6 ft Penn Carnage heavy jigging spinning rod?  Thinking halibut and ling cod, ~80-100 lb Power Pro.  Thx!
1 Answer
Could certainly be used but it will be on the heavier side for most jigging applications at over 30oz. Good value for that sale price currently though.

What is the difference between the Quantum Cabo y Boca besides the price?
1 Answer
The difference is that the Cabo has one more bearing and is made with materials that are more saltwater resistant than the boca.
