Survived LaGuardia airport...
August 15, 2014
I've only traveled once with this rod. It was on a trip to Cabo from New York through the dreaded LaGuardia airport. I had three expensive rods in it; two jigging rods and one popping rod. The rods survived and the case looks fine with a few small scratches due to the inept baggage handlers in LGA airport. The wheels worked fine and were still attached at the end of the trip, and there was no real damage done to the case (not for a lack of effort on the airport personnel's behalf). It's plenty roomy...I I packed some dirty laundry in it for the way home! My only complaint is that it is difficult to find a proper TSA approved lock for the case. I ordered it last minute so I didn't have a lot of time to shop around for a lock. Nothing I found had a long enough span. Other than that, great case!
Pros
  • Toughness
  • Wheels!
  • Simple design
  • Size
Cons
  • Finding a lock that fits

Awesome travel case

The jumbo airliner is awesome for flights to destinations where a telescoping rod or a multi piece rod just won’t cut it. I wrap the tips and the end of the rods in towels while in the rod sleeves. Then I use rod wraps to keep them tight together to minimize any chance for a guide to break. Thanks Plano!

very sturdy container. Lost count of how many rods I put in there. loaded the tube till bottom was filled with similar sized rods, bases down, then adjusted height and loaded a bunch more same sized rods tip down. all of the rods had there own cover(from T.D.) on them to protect them inside. Very satisfied and will be buying at least one more for my move, probably more
Pros
  • Adjustability and overall interior space.
Cons
  • could use a locking mechanism for lid but duct tape will do in a pinch

Great for airlines

I recently took a trip on jetblue with this rod tube and I was able to bring eight fishing rods up to seven and a half long without any issues. I wrapped the rods in bubble wrap to add protection and they arrived in perfect condition.
Pros
  • Expandable length and wheels
Cons
  • None

Maybe good for my kids' rods
June 11, 2016
Maybe it's because I have been using ABS or Pvc to make my own specific to the length of my rods but this felt very thin and cheap.

The wheels on this thing are absolutely useless. Its barely long enough to carry the majority of my rods but would work if I packed it with my kids snoopy and my little pony zebco rods.
Pros
  • Screw on cap

Will this hold a spinning rod without removing the reel?
1 Answer
possibly on a ultra light setup but anything larger then that probably won't fit.
