The Phenix Abyss Saltwater Series is constructed with Toray Graphite/S-Glass composites. The Abyss rod series is designed for "West Coast" style surface jig and live bait anglers. Traditionally, rod blanks of similar applications tend to be much heavier and have a wider base diameter, which often leads to casting fatigue. The Abyss Series utilizes the ideal strength-to-weight balance, yet ensuring superior lifting power.

  • Toray graphite/S-Glass composites
  • Premium Essex SiC SiC guides
  • Unique "laser-etched" appearance

Sweeet Rod!
March 2, 2021
This is one of the best casting rods I've ever owned.
I matched the rod with a Avet Mxl5
and it balanced out beautifully for my techniques.
I've used all along Monterey, santa cruz and Pacifica bottom fishing along with tossing out some 2oz jigs.
The rod has great sensitivity and lots of power.
For a boat rod it is pretty light in weight so my arms aren't fatigued after 3 hrs on the water.
I expect may years of use out of it and cant wait to purchase the Abyss hd spinning rod for my perch and striper bass along the beautiful surf here on the central California coast.
Thank you Phenix

Have used it for ling/halibut, rockfish, striper, salmon, and yesterday got a slightly undersize sturgeon on it. Handles business! The sturgeon first run straight down put a good bend in it but still had plenty left.
Pros
  • Great sensitivity
  • Good backbone for a 30-40 lb max rod
  • Casts great
  • Light weight
  • Build quality is great
  • Great price for a rod of this caliber
Cons
  • Not made in USA

This is my third Phenix Rod and my second from tackle direct. Great service and price and the rod out performs my expectations. Pairs it with an oversized bait caster and have caught Dorian’s yellowtail with it.

Love the quality and Abyss style finish- more soft action line of rods the Abyss- great for softer mouth fish-halibut-salmon-white sea bass.

Great Rod

I have three of these right now about to pick up a fourth.

Good value for your money. I fish all 807's as they are perfect for salmon, halibut & sturgeon.

Go heavier if you want it for rock cod/lings.

Love this rod for Yellowtail. These things are so light and powerful. The cork grips give you great feel and are much more comfortable for casting all day long. I would buy more but this thing is so versatile.
