The Phenix Black Diamond Casting Offshore Conventional Rods are constructed Toray's high strength carbon fibers and a unique layering process with a "secret sauce" resin. This combination of aerospace technology allowed Phenix to fabricate a super strong blank that has a thinner diameter and weighs considerably less than any other rods in its class.

  • Proprietary blend of high modulus graphite and high strength carbon fiber
  • Thin and lightweight
  • Extremely strong
  • Premium components

WRONG DESCRIPTION ABOUT THIS ITEM

Phenix PSW809XH-J is not "Silver Reel Seat". I ordered this one and received rod with normal reel seat just like basic model of black diamond series. It differs from picture shown.

Phenix Rods, if your not fishing one, your missing out!

Deckhand rods are pretty command out here on the west coast. This is my fifteenth Phenix rod and one of my favorites. This rod is sweet, awesome action, light tip, one of the best rods for live bait or throwing iron. The grip is nicley wrapped and offers great none slip. One of the big benefits of a deckhand style rod is that you can put your reel where ever it feels best (elbow from the butt cap to your hand/wrist is the norm). If your looking for a heavy 30lbs rod this is the one, match it up with a really nice star drag reel and you"ll be casting lures a country mile. Phenix rods are very thin, very light and almost feel like a bass rod, but have a ton of backbone to pull on some big, big fish. The standard Black Diamonds are more parabolic (good bend through the rod) than the Hybird's, a Hybird is stiffer and better for heavy action applications. Go get a Phenix and you'll be selling off your other rods on fleabay.
Pros
  • Black Diamond rods and rod blanks are very light and very thin with a ton of backbone. Black Diamonds have a really nice bend to them which is really nice when fighting a fish, it keeps good contact with your fish and less pulled hooks. The 8' length makes this a great casting rod and along with the deckhand grip you'll be out casting everyone on the boat. Phenix uses top of the line components, braid/spectra rated guides and the cord wrapped handle makes for a really good rod, but also a very nice looking rod as well. If your cord handle gets worn out or you just want to change the look it's very easy to replace it vs having the rod guides and reel seat stripped off to replace the grips and then rewrapped, mucho dinero $$$$. I have many Phenix rods, Standard Diamonds and Hybirds and I'd say this PSW809H is my new favorite go to rod.

Almost There......

Love the blank, love the action. The part I am not so in love with is that the fancy shmancy reel seat tightening rings seems to always shake loose even with the "O" ring. The other part is that the hypalon grips are really skinny, I prefer a little more diameter to the grips......
Pros
  • Lightweight and well put together.......
Cons
  • Reel seat rings spontaneously loosen, and there is a lot of talk on various fishing forums about lack of support and eyes that start to rust under the wrap. I hope none of Black Diamonds do this.........
