Penn Senator? rods are truly solid performers, each featuring the unsurpassed strength and power of solid yet lightweight fiberglass construction. Wherever tough gamefish are the Penn Senator? ocean trolling and bottom fishing rods can help you land them. One piece, blank through butt construction makes these rods practically indestructible. Lightweight solid fiberglass blanks deliver the action and lifting power to beat big, powerful fish without wearing out the angler.
Penn Senator® Rods Key Features
  • Durable solid fiberglass blank construction
  • Blank through butt technology for added strength
  • Heavy duty anodized aluminum reel seat
  • 2 style of guides (Special Senator feature AFTCO Roller Guides & Tip Top; Senator feature Stuart Guides and Tip Top)
Penn Special Senator® Rods
Special Senator® Rods offer anglers quality components like full AFTCO® guides and Penn's IST rod blank technology for improved durability and reduced weight compared to solid glass rod blanks. Utilizing Penn's Slick Butt® for durability and reliability, Special Senator® Rods are favorites of charterboat captains. With a machined, aluminum reel seat and metal gimbal, Special Senator® Rods are capable of any bluewater challenge. When matched with the Penn reel of your choice, Penn Special Senator® Rods can land just about any size fish.

Penn Senator® Rods
Penn Senator® Rods feature a tubular glass blank with Penn's Integrated Solid Tip (IST) for added durability, and a significant decrease in overall weight versus solid glass blanks. Other key features include AFTCO® Roller stripping guide and tiptop, with chromed stainless "In-Between" guides for the best combination of line-wear protection and economy. All Senator® Rods include Penn's Slick Butt® for increased durability and ease of quickly removing the rod from the rod holder under the intense pressure of a "submarining" fish.

Penn Senator® Rods also feature machined reel seats, capable of standing up to the intense pressures oversized fish can exert on tackle, and a metal gimbal for serious fishing applications. Finished in charcoal gray, Penn Senator® Rods feature a new checkered butt-wrap for improved appearance.

Great trolling rod
January 11, 2016
I started off with one of these matched with a TLD25 for a shark rod. Ended up liking it so much I bought 3 more to use for all my trolling needs. The rods are sturdy and have a good flex to them. I like the roller tip and last guide as it gives just enough friction reduction without having to worry about a complete roller guide rod. My favorite part is the metal reel seat. Unlike some of the cheaper rods I have used with plastic reel seats this rod will definitely hold up to the abuse of catching large fish.

Good Rods
March 5, 2013
I have to say that these are nice rods with only one problem that the rings of the guides fall off. It is is not powerfully welded to the seat. I have four of these rods with different pound test and they all have the same problem. I had to re-weld the rings with brass weld but you have to watch not to heat the seat too much which is not an easy job. Other than that they are powerful rods and they look nice. The guides loose their chrome finish quickly but they still look descent. I have two of same rods with all rollers and they are awesome.
Pros
  • Price, power, looks
Cons
  • guides

Will a penn squall 50w fit on this rod?
1 Answer
These are unavailable at this time. However if you already have them the 9/0 60-80 will fit the best.

Which travelling rod (3 pc or more) would pair well on a Penn Senator 113H special 4/0
1 Answer
The Penn senators are massive trolling reels and the only thing that would fit that would be a either a stright/bent butt trolling rod in two piece

Can I put a shimano speedmaster ii 25 on the senator 9/0? If not can you recommend a rid similar to this for offshore

 bottom fishing... thanks

1 Answer
Hi Frank, The Penn Senator Rods have been discontinued. I would recommend a TackleDirect Silver Hook Series Conventional Rod. Specifically Model: TDSSUT661MHSB; TD Code: TDA-0266. https://www.tackledirect.com/tackledirect-tdssut661mhsb-custom-saltwater-conventional-rod.html This rod would pair great with your Shimano Speedmaster 25 for any offshore fishing application. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

How do I string the fishing line through the eyelets on the Penn Senator poles?
1 Answer
When rigging with the Penn Senator Trolling rods, the line has to run in between the two main rollers as it goes through each guide.
