PENN SQUADRIN 1220C70 MH CONVENTIONAL ROD.
December 24, 2019
Bought it over a year ago, used it for med. bait casting in salt water, actually liked it, good price and all. Only wish the butt was longer for the under arm support. Took care of that---took 3 in. off the tip and added the 6 in. to the butt. Ordered a 14 in. handle kit with 31/2 in. fore grip and a heavier #17 casting reel seat from a Rod Building Company. All finished, looks great, can't wait to use it for spring sea bass and flounder(fluke), has good back bone and still fast action and light in weight.
Pros
  • This is a real nice rod for the money, I only modified it to experiment. I am over 70 years old and have always felt more comfortable with a longer butt. Can't wait to use it.
Cons
  • The only down side with the rod for me was very short fore grip and a very short butt handle. Also the original real seat was replaced with a slightly heavier seat. I use to build rods back in the 70's and 80's so doing this modification was fun.

Great Rod for Light Fishing and Fluking
July 29, 2016
Very nice rod when fishing with smaller lures like bucktails and small poppers. Has been my primary rod for fluking this summer and fishing in the river where long casts are not necessary and focusing on placement is more important then distance. Pairs beautifully with a Battle II 4000.
Pros
  • Great for fluking especially when jigging for with small bucktails
Cons
  • Tough to work a pencil popper with

Dependable Rods

I love these rods. I use the 410 for inshore jigging and the MH for bait and theyr'e great. For the price, you can't beat em with a stick. I've caught nice trout, redfish, flounder and rays & the rods hold up great.
Pros
  • price, durability, action,
Cons
  • ?

Great Price
December 22, 2013
Great rod. The only thing to consider when buying is a light action saltwater rod feels like a very strong medium to medium heavy fresh water rod.
Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • A little stiff for a light action

I plan on buying this 7’ light action rod with a Pursuit III, what reel size should I pair the rod with?
1 Answer
Unfortunately we no longer carry this rod, but to answer this question any reel size 2000-3000 would pair well.

I just recently purchased a Penn 3500 for inshore fishing. It is currently on a Shimano jig and worm rod, but I am looking for a better match for the reel. I do a lot of wade fishing with 20 pound braid. What would you suggest as a good rod for that reel and that type of fishing? Thanks
1 Answer
Take a look at the Shimano Convergence CVSFL72MHB. Great light weight and very sensitive rod. I use mine for back bay Flounder and Stripers. Great price as well.
