Penn Rampage Boat Rods were designed for charter boats or anglers that need durability in a variety of fishing situations. Constructed with tubular glass blank for extra strength, Penn Rampage also features a solid glass tip that helps keep the rod tip from breaking even when high sticked.

A heavy duty Pac Bay reel seat ensures a secure lock on the reel foot, eliminating flex while under heavy load. Each rod features guides built with heavy duty stainless steel frames and aluminum oxide inserts that are perfect for both mono and braided lines. RAMBW2050C56AR has Pac Bay roller guides; RAMBW2050C60RS & RAMBW3080C60RS have Pac Bay roller stripper.
  • 1 piece tubular glass blank with solid tip
  • Stainless steel guides with aluminum oxide inserts
  • Triangular shaped EVA grips

An $8.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

Heavy model for sharks
February 4, 2022
I got the heavy version of this rod to target sharks on boat trips. rod is super strong, but a little heavy. not really made to cast, so i dont see this as an issue. put an 8000 size or larger reel on is and hold on.
Pros
  • great for bait and wait fishing
Cons
  • heavy. not made for casting or working lures. really best for bait and wait fishing i think

Cracks in guides
August 6, 2021
Rambw3080c66

We Bought 12 of these rods for this charter season. 1st trip of the year, reeling up the 2nd fish one of them snapped in 2 between the 3rd & 4th guide. And also had one go down due to missing eyelet (which happens on a charter boat)

As the season progressed we started breaking braid, 4 or 5 times a trip. At first I assumed it was a bad batch of line. Respolled the reels 2 week ago with power pro and results were the same.

Preformed some pull tests at the dock Monday; tying the line to a cleat and putting a strain on the rod, 6 out the 10 remaining all cut the line at the 3rd eyelet from the tip. Upon close inspection each had a hair line crack in the ceramic insert.

Penn customer service was very unresponsive, blaming the issue on heavy use & was unwilling to work with us at all, even on the snapped “single use†rod. Now I know my testing wasn’t very scientific, but 6 rods with defective guides all in the same place, appears more systematic than “heavy use†wear & tear after 7 weeks (which that was when I tested them, I almost positive they’ve been damaged from the start of the season) Also of note, we had run the Slammer rods of the combo package for a few years without issues such as these.

When it was apparent Penn was not interested in addressing the problem on whole, I offered as a compromise that if they sent me replacement guides I would replace them myself. But unfortunately that offer was rejected as well. They are completely washing their wash hands of any culpability in this matter.
Pros
  • Nice action for the fishing we do. Will probably rewrap the rods this winter and use them next season
Cons
  • Poor quality control and disappointing customer service

Just what I was looking for.

Matched up 2 Penn RAMBW2040C70LB to match up with some old Penn 330 GTI level winds i have. I was looking for an inexpensive rod that would look nice with the reels and also be functional, and these did not disappoint. I used the combo for rock fishing recently with 65 lbs red power pro spectra and 40 lbs short mono top shots with dropper loops for deep reds and ling cod (350-550 feet) and they worked fantastic. The rods were sensitive enough to feel the bite that deep but had plenty of back bone to crank the fish up, even with a double on and heavy weight. Very, very happy with the product.
Pros
  • Great rod for the price, meets all the check boxes.
Cons
  • None.

Sweet looking pole

I’ll be honest for the price I bought this for I didn’t expect much. Number one question yes it’s made in China. Is it beautiful, does it seem functional yes, will it make a good light sea rod oh yeah!
Pros
  • Great price for the quality of the unit.
Cons
  • Nothing yet but it and the reel are under review.

Perfect for everyday use
March 11, 2021
I purchased 4 of these rods for use by friends on the boat. I happen to use them now myself all the time. I have them spooled with 20lb mono and they feel great. You can feel as soon as a fish starts to nibble on the bait. Caught a fish on my first time dropping bait (Bottom fishing) with one of these rods. I plan to use them trolling for Spanish and King Mackerel.
Pros
  • Price, feel, quality. Pairs well with a LW 20 reel
Cons
  • Not flashy, but that's okay

Rock Solid!
February 20, 2021
I bought two Rampage Rods for Bluefin fishing last year. Wanted to put some fish and time on them before reviewing! The rods are rock solid! From casting irons to fighting fish. Rods have a great back bone in the fight that hold up to big explosive runs. Well worth the price! This is one of the times I got more than expected considering what I paid for them.
Pros
  • Great price, Great Quality
Cons
  • None that I can find

Great rod for the money

Just got into the Southern California bluefin tuna kite fishing and wasn’t really looking to spend 100-300$ on a rod for a kite but the rampage rod was perfect. It has the short length which is nice for moving around rods and it has a big guide that you can fit swivels through.
Pros
  • Everything
Cons
  • Nothing

Will this rod work with baitcasting reel?
1 Answer
Technically it would work but the reel wouldn't serve its purpose on a rod like that with a roller guide.

Is the Penn RAMBW3080C60RS Rampage Boat Rod a good match for my Penn Fathom 40NLD2 reel? I'm mainly going to be using it for bottom fishing for rock cod, ling cod and halibut on party boats.
1 Answer
I wouldn't go with a roller tip in this case. Take a look at the RAMBW3080C66 model, which has the same ratings, but has the standard rod tip, which would be better suited for bottom fishing.

I am looking for a conventional rod for use on party boats in the NE US for offshore sea bass, cod, etc. with sinkers between 8 and 20 oz.  Which Rampage rod would you recommend?  (My reel is a Torium 30, BTW).  Thanks.
1 Answer
Penn model number RAMBW3080C66 would pair well with the Torium 30 and be able to handle heavier weights up to 20oz fishing for sea bass and cod

Is it applicable for medium-hi distance casting with the roller guide configuration?
1 Answer
I would not recommend attempting to cast long distances with roller guides. You would be much better casting with regular guides and would get more distance.
