Durable & Sensitive to the bite
June 7, 2022
I caught several large strippers, dogfish sharks and a nice black drum on this this spring. It could be said the rod was not heavy enough. But in the end, I got everything on the beach and the pole is as good as new.
Pros
  • Reliable
  • Sensitive to the bite
  • Durable
  • Great Bargain
Cons
  • None for the price

this rod has some really big fish on it for me. paired to a battle 3 6000hs it is a great combo for short money.
this rod is very parabolic, holds onto the fish and wears them down without beating you up. my carnage 2 turns the fish a little easier maybe, but for a while i liked my prevail 2 more than my heavy surf 2 blockhole
Pros
  • price point
  • action

Which rod would pair best with a Avet SXJ 5.3 MC?

1 Answer
Hi Steve, Depending on what your fishing for and how much weight you need to cast, I would recommend the Penn PRESFII1220C10 Prevail II Surf Casting Rod. Specifically Model: PRESFII1220C10; TackleDirect Code: PEN-1801. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-presfii1220c10-prevail-ii-surf-casting-rod.html. This rod is lightweight, versatile for throwing lures and bait fishing, and will be very comfortable paired with a Avet SXJ to cast with. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Would the 11 ft med heavy rod be good paired with Penn 4000 reel?
1 Answer
You certainly can pair this with a 4000 size reel depending on what kind of fish you are targetting and the application you plan on using to target them. Typically a 5000 size reel is a good starting point for surf rods

For better distance with a 6oz sinker plus chunk bait, would you recommend the 11’ or 12’ (spinning) rod?
1 Answer
I would recommend the 12' model if using that much weight plus bait, however, the Heavy action of this rod may compromise your casting distance slightly.
