Good Surf Rod
December 1, 2015
This is a nice surf rod for the price. Cast with good distance and strong enough to withstand larger fish in the surf. The butt of the rod fits and locks into sand holders nice.

this rod is by far one of the best pulling surf rods out there. It pulled a 39 inch drum no problem and throws very well.

Great Surf Rod
June 23, 2015
I bought this rod on a budget and paired it with my Daiwa Saltist BG 30H. The rod gets great distance. I am able to throw around 100 yards off the ground and I have seen my set up thrown around 150 with pendulum.

Great rod and it feels very sturdy. I bought the 11' casting model to use surf fishing. I have other Penn products and love them. This is an awesome addition to my gear.

Great Rod At A Bargain Price
December 23, 2013
It appears Penn has given surf fishers a true bargain. Beautiful guide wraps. Flawless finish. My recently purchased Penn Prevail 11' 2-6 oz surf casting rod's guides are placed where they should be for a surf casting rod - along the spine. It's hard to believe this is a factory production rod. If Penn upgraded the guides and reel seat to "top of the line" they could easily sell this rod for more than double the price.
Pros
  • Fit and finish. Castability throughout stated weight range. Loads nicely.
Cons
  • None so far.

Prevail 10
November 18, 2013
Bought this 10 foot casting rod and have taken it on two fishing trips so far. I have caught 15 or so puppy drum with it in the 24 inch range and the rod performed wonderfully. I really like the rubber shrink wrapped handle, much more than the cork handled rods that I own. Rod has good backbone for setting hooks but is not so stiff as to make it hard to cast. I will definitely be looking at these rods again when I get ready to buy another one. No disappointments for me with this rod.

Nice surf caster!
October 2, 2013
Even though most Penn fishing equipment is now made in China and their overall quality has suffered. That being said this rod was a pleasant surprise. Nice narrow grip and seemingly strong guides. I do own two 12' casting models now.
Pros
  • Great look and feel. Great surf caster for the $$$.
Cons
  • Chinese made.

Prevail Casting Surf Rod
June 20, 2013
I bought the 11' casting rod. I also own the 11' spinning rod that I am very happy with. This Rod is no exception. The major difference between the casting and spinning is the handle is much slimmer on the casting. I don't know if this is accurate but the casting rod feels lighter. The rod has good action. It is rated for 2-5oz but I have casted 1oz bucktails with it. I am very happy with the purchase.

Great Rod in this Price Range

I purchased the Prevail 12ft casting rod, and it was well worth the money. This rod looks great, and has already handled some 35lb black drum with ease. I paired it with my Avet mxl mc, and with a 5oz weight and bait I can easily cast 60+ yards without much effort. Tackle Direct quickly shipped this rod at a great price.

Great Rod in this Price Range

I bought the 12ft Prevail surf rod, and it is now my favorite surf caster. I paired it with my Avet mxl mc, and with that combo I am able to easily cast 5 ounces and bait 60+ yards without too much effort. I have already landed some nice 35lb Black Drum on this rod and it handled them like a champ. This rod is heavy action but is sensitive to some of the smaller bites. Plus it looks great!

Good deal.

I was more than happy with the service from TD. I decided on the 12' heavy casting model. Am very happy with my purchase. Only issue I had, was the first time I loaded it with wt. and bait, the center ring fell out of the tip guide. I noticed it just before casting and was able to quick fix it by pinching the guide and ring together with my pliers. Minor manufacturing defect, but for the price and overall quality of the rod it's a great purchase. My good friend is very strict on his poles, he is ordering 3 after handling mine. Again, Great product.
Pros
  • Darn near everything.
