I've used these reel/rod combos on my last charter and even though the were a few years old and used almost daily they worked well. They were heavier than the Shimano reels that I use but they were also about 1/2 the cost too. You really can't beat these for the money. I have a few buddies who have bought these and added a few upgrades to improve drag and make them a little smoother feeling. I was told they are also pretty easy to maintain.

I picked this combo up for my 13 year old daughter not only did it meet her visual standard it's fish catching ability is off the charts. All I have to do.is listen to her brag after a day on the water.

This is a price point rod reel combo. I have the 8000 series reel with the 10' rod for surf fishing. Good setup but not top of the line. I bought this to get into surf fishing. It does a nice job and is a little better than an entry level reel. Nice smooth retrieve but not the smoothest out there. Brings in a fish nice. I spooled mine with 50# braid and it works well. It has been a good setup for me.

good combo...light weight, so you can fish all day long....nice drag system.....a very good price.
