The PENN Conflict II Long Cast Spinning Reels are a development upon the success of the original Conflict II. As the market grows, there are two main criticisms that surf anglers have of long cast reels. The first is that most long cast reels are generally very heavy, and the second is that there are very few long cast reels that are built to withstand exposure to saltwater. That's why Penn has introduced three long cast models of their lightest spinning reel they've ever made, the Conflict II. The light weight of these reels combined with an extra long spool and slow oscillating rotor to lay line parallel to itself will greatly enhance your distance casting capabilities. The CNC Gear Technology along with the RR30 body and rotor make the Conflict II Long Cast one of the more durable and technically advanced surf reels with long cast capabilities.

Conflict II Long Cast Features:

  • Rigid Resin RR30 Techno-balanced rotor
  • CNC Gear Technology
  • HT-100 carbon fiber drag washers
  • 7+1 stainless steel ball bearing system
  • Leveline oscillation
  • Brass pinion gear on all models
  • Aluminum main gear on all models
  • Superline spool
  • Line capacity rings

light, but not for big fish

this is a really interesting reel. super light weight, but i found that the stem of the foot flexed under load. i had a keeper size striper on and i was honestly worried that i was going to snap it. i couldnt believe how much it flexed.

it really does cast super far and the handle/knob is very comfortable. i really wanted to like this reel, especially since i am a penn fanboy. but i felt like i couldnt trust it, ended up selling it.

i really think it would be better for reef fishing or pompano type fish from the beach
Pros
  • light
  • long cast
Cons
  • flex in the stem

I purchased the 8000LC model and tested it out for 5 hours straight. Worked it hard. Made hundreds of casting. I was totally impressed with its performance. It gave me more casting distance and a faster retrieve. Graring powerful and strong. The size of the reel has a lighter frame which was another plus. For the price of this reel wont cost you an arm as other brands. Totally worth the $250. Will be purchasing more of this reel. Good job Penn!
Pros
  • Light
  • Strong gearing
  • Farther casting
  • Fast retrieve

Awesome reel, I love it. I have put it through its paces so far this season on the east end of long island. From the ocean surf, back bay beaches, docks, jetties and bulk heads. Ive caught everything from stripers to porgeys. My casting distance has improved and line lay is perfect everytime, even when pencil popping. Only one wind knot so far and thats cause I over spooled it and havent had a problem since. The Drag is great, smooth and strong but no surprises there, its a penn drag. The reel itself is also very smooth. I feel like theres no fish out of distance when paired to either of my rockaway surf rods. I am very happy with my purchase and recommend to everyone.
Pros
  • Light, improved casting distance, line lay, smooth drag
Cons
  • None yet

With 18lbs of drag on the 6500, would this stand up to stripers in the Cape Cod Canal?
1 Answer
You'll need a stronger reel just for the current, I would look at the ULTCI45500XTC

Is this reels bearing and drag system sealed?
1 Answer
Hi Liam, According to Penn, The Penn Conflict II Long Cast Spinning Reels are not considered fully sealed reels. The drag for these reels have a seal underneath the drag knob. However, the ball bearings are shielded not sealed. Please let us know what else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What would be a good rod match for the CTF118000LC?  Any Brand. Fishing the Outer Banks.  I am considering this reel for Surf fishing. Probably will use 15lb to 20lb test mono. Could catch anything from puffers and Pompano to False Albacore and large sharks obviously but would primarily target Sea Mullet, Trout and  Red Drum.  The Red Drum can get big here.

This 12 ft Surf rod would pair well with your 8000 sized reel: Shimano SPMS120MH2 SpeedMaster Surf Spinning Rod.

We currently have these in stock.

In the photos of the reel, it looks like there is an anti-reverse on/off switch on the base of the reel below the stem, is that the case, or is that just an oddly angled photo?
1 Answer
No there is no switch.
