Both the Shimano Trevala and Penn Carnage II Jigging Rods are great rods at that price point. The Trevala has been around for a long time and has been one of the most popular jigging rods out on the water due to their impressive power to weight ratio and versatility. Deciding between the two would really come down to personal preference, but one factor I'd consider between the two is that there are more options within the Trevala lineup. Doesn't necessarily make it a better rod, but having all of the options with varying lengths and recommended jig weights for each rod allows anglers to get dialed in a bit more for a specific application. Carnage II only has 3 models each between spinning and conventional, maybe not the best if you are wanting to get more technical with your jigging gear. I personally have had a Trevala for about 10 years that has held up well while mostly being used for jigging up yellowfin, grouper, and even some hand crank deep dropping for tilefish. GIve us a call if you need some more help deciding between the two, we can certainly help if you are looking to use either for a specific application or matching with a certain reel.
