Penn Carnage II Boat Rods are designed to accommodate the compact reels that anglers use to achieve greater drag pressures with braided lines. Penn Carnage II Boat Rods are incredibly pleasant rods to fish with as they are lighter, use top of the line components, and have slower actions than comparable rods.
  • SLS3 blank construction
  • Fuji K guides with Alconite inserts
  • Non slip foregrip
  • Pac Bay aluminum reel seat

Carnage boat rod
August 7, 2019
Purchased 3 total to match with spinfisher vi 8500ll and at first it felt great. On the water first trip to go Red snapper fishing one of the two broke on first retrieval of a 2oz sinker. Tackle direct quickly replaced it. Second trip with one of the original rods not yet used fishing in Florida keys yellowtail snapper fishing the second broke 6 eyes back on a 3lb gray snapper. I am afraid to fish the third rod as I have lost faith. Each brake I went to Walmart and got s uglestick big water a similar rod for 40.00 and never a issue even on a 175lb nurse shark.
Pros
  • Feels good looks good
Cons
  • Cant fish with it

Carnage II jigging 7’6” MH
July 28, 2019
Great rod and even better customer service! I originally ordered the 7’ Carnage II boat rod, that was on order from another distributor. I then saw the Carnage II jigging rod was in stock. One call and my order was changed, and shipped the next day. The Penn Carnage II jigging 7’6” MH rod is amazing. It’s lightweight and incredibly strong. I paired mine with a Penn Slammer III 7500, and have no problem pulling in snapper, grouper, cobia, AJ, and blackfin. You can buy with confidence when buying from TackleDirect, and I will definitely do business with them again!
Pros
  • Light weight, strong, comfortable, aluminum gimbal, aluminum rod seat.
Cons
  • NONE!

Tackle Direct is GREAT!
May 18, 2019
Ordered my Penn carnage 2 boat (Heavy) spinning rod to go with my Penn 10500 slammer 3 spinning reel! I had looked at other fishing rods but the carnage 2 just caught my eye the way it was made and the finish on it plus it had great reviews about how it could handle large fish with ease! I have always bought cheaper rods but wanted something that would be a perfect match for this reel! This rod is the perfect match! So glad I went this route! This rod wasn't cheap but you have to have good equipment when fishing for big fish! If you go out fishing and your equipment fails then it just ruins your day! The build quality of this rod is very nice! I have not actually used it yet but I am very confident that this rod will fulfill my expectations and won't give me any problems with anything breaking etc.The people at Tackle Direct were very professional and when I received my new Penn rod it was shipped to me in a heavy shipping tube and the rod was bubble wrapped inside! There is no way this could have been damaged during shipping unless it was ran over by a forklift! Packaged very nice! When I got it I took it outside and inspected it for damage and it was Perfect! No damage whatsoever! This is the first time I have ordered a fishing rod and if I order one again I will go through Tackle Direct! They were Quick on their shipping too! And it was Free! Thank you Tackle Direct for a Great buying experience!

November 23, 2018
Hi there, I have the Slammer III in 8500 and 10500 sizes. Would I be better off to buy the jigging carnage II or spinning Boat spinning rods? I will be using the 10500 for large bronze whailer sharks and large Yellowtails Kingfish here in nz (cousins of your amberjacks) up to 30kg-usually live baiting, but might try and do some trolling for larger pelagics. Then the 8500 SLAIII will be for heavy popping and smaller live baiting. So I would want to be able to cast far off the boat with the 8500 but just drop live bait and might jig heavy with the 10500 too. What model rods in jigging and normal spinning would you suggest? I thought the 80-200lb jigging carnage II for the 10500 and the 4080S76 or the 50100S70 for the 8500. Also do Penn have a list of what size reels go with each rod? like a brochure or something? I would buy lots more if there was more info to the Carnage II range. Cheers heaps mate. David down under...p.s. please get some cheaper international shipping rates...they sting! really sting!!
1 Answer
I don't believe Penn has a brochure to list size reels to size rods. So the RAMJG50100S64 paired with your 8500 slammer 3 for jigging and regular boat fishing if you need a popping rod I would look at the TZS78HBLK

Sir Which one of them is popping rod? Because I'am a traveling angler. Explain me the details.
1 Answer
Hi Kamrul, The Penn CARBWII4080S76 Carnage II Boat Spinning Rod due to its size at 7'6" would be considered more of a Popping rod. However since this is currently sold out at this time, I would also recommend a Tsunami TSCSHDPSII762H-B Carbon Shield II Boat Popping Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/tsunami-tscshdpsii762h-b-carbon-shield-ii-boat-popping-rod.html The 2 piece, Heavy Action rod has a line rating of 40-80lb Braided line and would be ideal for offshore fishing applications and travel purposes. I have a slammer 3500 with 20lb braid would you recommend the  15-30 carnage or a 845 g loomis?

Hi Jackson, out of the options you mentioned I would go with the G-Loomis E6X845S-MGM Inshore Saltwater Spinning Rod. However both the G-loomis model: E6X845S-MGM and Penn Carnage Model: CARBWII 1530S70 are sold out. Instead I would recommend a Star Paraflex Spinning Boat Rod. Specificially Model: SGB70H; TackleDirect Code: STA-0267. https://www.tackledirect.com/star-sgb70h-paraflex-spinning-boat-rod.html. This model would pair well with the Penn Slammer 3500. I have a Penn Slammer 3 8500 with 50lbs of braid and am looking to pair it with the Carnage 2 - 50/100lbs - 7ft rod (CARBWII 50100S70 ).

I want to cast from the beach, jetties, piers and take it charter boat fishing.

Is this a good fit/combo?
Does anyone have 'real world' experience with this combo and can anyone confirm there is no 'line slap'?

I also have a Slammer 3 6500 with 50lbs of braid that I hopefully can switch back and forth on it. Would this rod accommodate both reels or is it standardized for one?

I really wish PENN had a chart of reel/rod "recommendations".

1 Answer
The rod you are inquiring about will certainly do well in a charter boat or pier and some jetty settings, but i'm not sure how well it will cast from the beach, going down to 30# braid on one of our reels will help improve your casting distance slightly.

Both reels you are looking to pair this rod with would work very well for any fishing application you are looking to  get into.

I do not personally own one of these rods and cannot comment on the 'line slap'
