Gulf Getter

Sent this down to my buddy as a thank you for a great trip out in the Gulf for reds and snook.

How did he repay me? Sent me a video of him hauling up a 30lb bull red on the rod I bought him!

This rig can handle all that Gulf can throw at you and would make a great NE inshore for resident stripers and blues.

The 1000 is a great combo!
May 19, 2022
I love the 1000 setup. I bought them for my young boys and it’s perfect for both salt and fresh water. It can easily hold up to schoolie stripers and flounder. It’s my new favorite setup for inshore fishing.

Great Inshore Combo for the Price
April 20, 2022
Picked this up for my son and it's been a great rod and reel for him. We've taken it on several trips and it's still as smooth as butter. Great quality and great value for the price.

Great Value Combo
April 13, 2022
Bought three of these for both fresh and saltwater fishing. Reel performance is great!! Rod quality is decent and can’t beat it for the money.
Pros
  • Bail closes very easily with slight turn of the handle.
Cons
  • No reverse selector

10ft 8000 combo
February 8, 2022
the rod is good, a bit heavy. it is different than the prevail 2 blank, a lot of flex, i found it good as a back up. I took off the 8000 size reel and put on a 6000 from the jigging battle combo. i put the 8000 in the 6'6 2-5 jigging rod, i think this is how they should have come from the start.
Pros
  • inexpensive. strong rod and reel
Cons
  • a bit heavy

Good solid combo, but not a Spinfisher
February 4, 2022
Got the 2-piece 4000 combo to travel with and it's a great set up, but it isn't as robust as my Spinfisher (also a lot cheaper, though). I can't say enough about Penn's quality and durability, as I have reels that are 20 years old and still going strong. It's got great feel and balance, but just not as much heft.
Pros
  • Price, and Penn's legendary durability

4000 combo
January 9, 2022
This is my fifth Penn BTLIII4000701M Battle III Spinning Combo. The previous four have been very good quality and a decent value. This one however came with a grinding, knocking reel. I can't figure out what the issue is. When reeled the reel is not smooth but knocks. It seems internal but I can't tell. Hard to describe the problem but it is not at all like all the four other 4000's I own. Disappointed with the reel. Rod is fine and the action is fine.
Pros
  • Rod is nice. Would prefer another inch or two on the front cork grip. Would make the rod more comfortable when fighting larger fish.
Cons
  • Rough reel, grinding knocking when reeled out of the box.

Inshore flounder

Love this setup for jigging easy season flounder in shallow water using light bucktails. Have a couple of these, beat the heck out of them and they hold up
Pros
  • Balance

I have other Penn rods and reels. Purchase this light combo to just have fun when fishing. A little more action and fight. Very much like all my Penn rods and reels.

  • Penn quality
