Excellent for the Beach

Bought this for a 10 ft ugly stik. Awesome combo that cast a long way. I could see this reel doing well on jetties as well. Super smooth, fast. Not a huge fan of newer Penns; they seem heavy and expensive, BIG FAN of this one! Reminds me of my dads Penns n the 80s. Very happy.
Pros
  • Powerful, great drag flexibility, responsive, super smooth, comfortable round handle, durable, fast, very tactile drag, light at for its size, pretty silver color stays cool and clean. Great ergs.
Cons
  • Little heavy, but lighter than other Penns and reels of its class. Balanced
  • Well.

Is this reel smooth under pressure? My first penn reel was not and I was wondering if all penn reels were like that.
1 Answer
This is a very solid well designed reel, while i have not personally fished it so i cannot say with absolute certainty, i would assume that this reel is very smooth under pressure with the brass gears and full metal construction.

What was your previous Penn reel you were having issues with?

What is the difference in the DX models over the regular Battle III model?
1 Answer
The biggest difference is that Brass main gears are in every size of the Penn Battle III DX as opposed to the Battle III which only has the brass gearing in the 6k-10k models. The stronger gearing makes for a more robust and powerful reel.
