Penn Battalion II Slow Pitch Casting Rods are made for the popular slow pitch jigging technique that's used widely across the US. These rods feature a rolled composite core with outer layers of longitudinal glass construction for a thin and lightweight blank. The blanks flex from grip to tip distributing weight. Parabolic rods that offer everything an angler is looking for in a jigging rod from balance to recoil. An acid-wrapped guide train enhances stability when fighting larger fish by preventing the rod from rolling or twisting. These are ideal rods for working jigs in bottom structures and offshore wrecks and inshore bays.

  • Adjustable EVA Versa-grip
  • Tapered EVA grips
  • RCB2 construction blanks
  • Fuji reel seat
  • Solid tip technology
  • Acid-wrapped Fuji K guides with alconite inserts

Would you recommend a medium light or medium for sheepshead red snapper?

1 Answer
Hi Charles, Based on your fishing application and the size of the fish, I would recommend a Medium or Medium Heavy. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-batspjii450c68mh-battalion-ii-slow-pitch-casting-rod.html You will want a strong backbone to be able to pull Sheepshead away from the structurre and this will be better with a stiffer rod than a Medium light action rod and help you catch more fish. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Kayak angler in the chesapeake bay. I typically jig in the 1oz-3 oz range. Catching striped bass, bull reds and cobia. Which model would you recommend?

1 Answer
I would recommend the Medium rated rod, these seem to be rated a little heavier than most Medium rated slow pitch rods with a max jig weight of 350grams which is well over what you typically use.

The medium should have more than enough back bone for you to handle these large reds and cobia.

I’ve seen videos of people slow pitching for tuna up to 40lb range.. do you recommend do this?
1 Answer
Penn typically makes very strong quality rods for the price. This is one of there newer rod models i have not handled personally myself, but these should certainly make easy work of smaller class tuna with the M or MH rated rod
