Beast of a rod!!!

I have 3 of these rods and have never had one broken I use 8-10 oz spider weights with decent sized chunks of bait and it launches. I can cast 100 yards consistently and have caught tons of fish on it even handled sharks in the 5ft range with no problems. Great rod, great backbone, and isn’t going to break the bank

Tackle Direct-- a pro shop for the fisherman
May 21, 2021
May 21, 2021-- I purchased the Battalion II 11ft surf rod from Tackle Direct. When my order arrived, I was amazed at how securely it was packed. The cardboard tube that the rod came in seemed indestructible. It was simply amazing. Of course, the rod itself arrived unscathed. As for the rod, it is a thing of beauty - light, strong, and reasonably priced. I paired it with an Akios 656 conventional reel, a perfect match. Unfortunately, I yet to master the art of casting with a conventional reel as I got bird nest after bird nest. I finally stopped using the Akios and paired the rod it with a Fierce 5000 spinning reel. For practice casting I used a rubber baseball with an eye bolt and screw, a total of 6 1/4 oz. Usually I can cast around 80-90 yds. With the Battalion, and with little effort, I was able to cast the rubber ball 107 yds! Incredible distance that I have never achieved. Yes, it's a conventional rod, but this rod is so tough that I have no fear of pairing it with a 5000 size spinning reel. If I decide to sell the Akios, I will use the Battalion rod as a spinning rod. Battalion rod is a great buy, even made better by a shop that knows how to prepare fishing equipment for shipping. Great price and great job Tackle Direct. Nelson, Fort Worth TX

I am looking to build a rig for Striper fishing the Cape Code Canal this summer.  What would you recommend for casting large surface lures as far and accurate that will not tire you out any faster than necessary.

I will tell you that I'm considering a 11" pole, 2-5 oz with a Penn Spin caster VI 5500 Long Cast with 30lbs braid.

Even if what I picked is acceptable, what would you recommend and personally use (Pole & Reel) for this type of fishing?

Thx Much!

Frank, Here is a small list of suggested rods for the Canal. Okuma Cedros (OKM-0317), ODM D.N.A. (ODM-0032), or ODM Jigster (ODM-0005).
