PENN, Enough said!
August 16, 2022
I have the PENN 7' ft. M/H Battalion II Inshore rods in both Spinning and Casting. They have a great feel and enough backbone to handle all the inshore fish I target. You get what you pay for.
Pros
  • PENN makes Dang Good Rods and Reels. I have been using PENN products for years.
Cons
  • The only con I have it was made in China, and not made in the GOOD OLD U.S A.

Nice Rod
July 11, 2022
Bought this to pair with a Penn Battle 3 dx 3000. Very nice pairing for some specks and redfish. Would recommend .... can't go wrong with Battalion 2 rods...

Order got here quick as usual and rod was well packaged.....no worries buying rods from here.

Well Crafted Rod

Perfect Rod for throwing lighter tins in the salt. I have only owned one other Penn Rod and this one is is a step up. Light & Balanced with the correct reel for it and versatile enough to throw some lighter jigs and bottom bouncing lures like swim baits, etc.

Not a good start

Not inspiring confidence at the start of our relationship. Reel seat cover seperated from seat cap while mounting the reel n rod for the first time. See photo. Nothing structural, I'll just glue it back. The reel is a Penn Slammer III, so I would think they're compatible. :)
Pros
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Attention to detail

Great little rod

Paired this reel with a Penn DX 2500 which IMHO is the perfect combo and became my favorite. Used reel setup to target speckled trouts in the surf. Super light combo could be casting all day long.

Great Rod for Inshore Fishing
July 6, 2021
Best rod I have ever used from Penn. Great for trout, redfish, flounder, and black drum. It has immense back bone for a rod in the medium power strength. Also the handle feels really nice with it having a break in the cork.
Pros
  • Great back bone. Strong line guides. Nice handle.
Cons
  • None

Amazing rod for Inshore species
January 6, 2021
I have eight 14 Penn rods including the Battalion and Battalion II. I like both and would buy either again. The Battalion II has better hardware, but I haven't had a failure on either model. I have the the B2 8-15 paired with a Conflict II 2500. It makes for a nicely balanced and lightweight package for specks, reds, flounder, and a host of other Inshore species. The Battalion is paired with a Conflict II 3000. It serves much of the same purpose, but handles an occasional blackfin tuna, bonita, bull red, etc better than the smaller reel while still being pretty darn light. These are great rods for the money.
Pros
  • Lightweight, tough, inexpensive.
Cons
  • Hard to find one to buy these days.

Great Rod but...
November 13, 2020
Just received my new Penn Battalion II 12-20lb and new Penn Battle III DX5000. The rod looks great and came in perfect condition as usual from tackledirect. The only issue is that the real doesn’t sit very securely in the real seat. Only about a quarter inch of the top and the bottom of the real foot slides into the reel seat hoods so allows a little bit of play. Probably going to have to wrap area so doesn’t move under load. Other than that, very happy. Have it spooled up with 400 plus yards of 20lb braid, this will be my new pitch rig offshore for dolphin and tuna.
Pros
  • Lightweight, great guides, strong.
Cons
  • Penn DX5000 reel doesn?t seat snugly on rod.

Great Inshore Pole
October 28, 2020
Very sensitive for a 1 ounce lure casting pole. Tough and light.
1 Question & 1 Answer
BRAD
from saint bernard, Louisiana asked:
June 16, 2022
What is the braid rating for this rod? And would an battle 3 8000 pair up?
1 Answer
Hey Brad, We recommend using braid line from 20lbs-65lbs on this rod. The Penn Battle III 8000 will be a bit big on this rod and recommend going with a 5000 size to balance the rod better. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!
