I haven't used this rod yet but I am really looking forward to checking them out. I paired them with Avet HXW 4.2 reels and can't wait to get out there and put 'em to work.

Well built rod, good price point

Bought a pair of these rods for live baiting Ling cod on the central coast of California. Very well built and strong rods. There action loaded up well for the type fishing we do. Landed several average size fish and have confidence when a beast comes knocking this rod was a good choice .
Pros
  • weight, fit and finish. Fits a 400, 500 sized Accurate BV and TX reel perfectly. A lot of good components for the price point

Great rod, well matched in build quality.
Pros
  • Ideal flex for trolling for small tuna. Far Better than low end 'boat rods'. Enjoy using it for 20-25Lb fish.

great boat rod

I have 4 of the 661's paired with Avet's mxj 5.3's spooled with the 15lb free mono the reels came with. They worked great all season, used them for fluke sea bass and stripers primarily. We have used 6oz's or more perhaps of lead while fishing out to about 50 to 60 feet of water.
for 109 dollars these have performed as well as some of my top shelf rods without a doubt. Bought them as beaters for friends and such to use, not so much anymore as I want them to last a while now:) next season we will braid them up but thanks T D for the free mono it served us well.
Pros
  • $$
Cons
  • none

Would these be good for trolling for kings, mahi, wahoo? Which one do I need to pull 1- 4 ox mackahoo lures ?

1 Answer
Hi Kevin, The Okuma SCT-AT-601H Albacore Trolling Rod would be great for your application. However since it's currently sold out I would also recommend a TackleDirect TDPS703050SIN Platinum Hook Conventional Kingfish Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/tackledirect-tdps703050sin-platinum-hook-conventional-kingfish-rod.html This is specifically desigined for targeting kingfish and would be ideal for mahi and wahoo. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

How are these rods different from the now discontinued SCT inshore rods. Only difference I notice in the different length options the lack of the split grip and the price. Are they basically same rods?

Thanks

1 Answer
There is a difference in the components used on the Albacore rods. They have aluminum gimbals, Alps aluminum reel seats, and Titanium oxide Alps guide inserts.
